Suzuki Philippines rolls out S-presso GL AGS with automated manual transmission

Suzuki Philippines has officially launched the GL AGS variant of their popular S-presso mini crossover now equipped with the automated manual transmission they’ve already fielded in this market with their Celerio and Dzire models.

The launch event held at the Okada Manila yesterday was attended by global Suzuki representatives, Suzuki dealers, their partner banks, S-presso car club members and the motoring press. Noticeably grander than what the introduction of a model variant might warrant, the launch seemed to serve also as a celebration, it being the brand’s first major event after the official “all clear” on the long-running health crisis was declared last month.

The launch, by all rights, could’ve also celebrated Suzuki having completed the automated gearbox variants for all of their sub-compact five-seaters which include the S-presso crossover, the Celerio hatchback and the Dzire sedan. Listing at an SRP of P660,000, the S-presso GL AGS puts an automated manual transmission option on their lowest priced model (with the exception only of the base variant Dzire).

The GL AGS variant also puts an automated shifter on a true crossover rough roader. With a minimum of 180mm between it’s undercarriage and the ground, the S-presso has the highest clearance among their five-seaters with the Celerio having 170mm, the Dzire its 145mm and the Swift down at 120mm (note: their full-on off-roading and high-riding 4×4 Swift is officially a four-seater).

Suzuki S-Presso made sportier with Special Edition black and silver touches

The Suzuki S-Presso mini-crossover has been spiced up into a Special Edition variant featuring new exterior and interior touches.

Up top there’s a new roof-mounted rear spoiler.

Down low, the S-Presso’s singular look is now underscored with side cladding and fender flares that loop the stock bumpers into wraparound polymer protection. Plus, cosmetic and functional silver highlights like front, side and rear skid patches contrast with that black road armor to render an even sportier tone that extends to the new alloy wheels.

Inside, that silver ornamentation continues on the front dash and side door panels.

The new Suzuki S-Presso Special Edition lists at PhP568,000.

Suzuki 2021 car sales grow at almost twice the rate of entire industry

Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH), the country’s big name in small cars, reports industry-leading growth in January to April 2021 sales. In their official statement on this year’s sales so far, Suzuki cites data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) that puts total automotive industry sales for the first four months of 2021 at 95,197 units, representing a 34 percent increase in volume from the same period last year. This, they contrast with the 6,390 units they sold in the first four months of 2021 compared to their 3,789 units for the same period last year–Suzuki’s resulting 65 percent growth is almost double that of CAMPI’s measurement for the entire industry.

Suzuki further reports that their 1,695 unit sales for this April ranks them third among automakers for the month and fourth for year-to-date sales. They report their key sales drivers as the following:

  • 1,544 units sold for the Ertiga three-row MPV with SRPs at P0.738 to P0.998M
  • 1,204 units sold for the S-Presso mini-crossover with SRP at P0.573M each
  • 1,177 units sold for  the Carry light truck platform with SRP at P0.529 to P0.644M

The 3,925 total units sold among these key models represent 61 percent of their January to April 2021 sales.

And, there’s also them driving themselves. SPH vice president and general manager for automobile division Keiichi Suzuki says: “Despite the challenging situation, this continuous achievement that Suzuki has been reaping now is a testament of how we remain relentless in our goal to provide quality driving experience to the market. We will continue to thrive and reinforce our commitment to show more people what the Suzuki Way of Life is all about.”

In terms of process, Suzuki attributes their exceptional sales to below-the-line marketing efforts such as price and premiums promos, public engagement activations such as through their touring auto festival events, strong digital communications and other brand-pushing efforts online by Suzuki as well as by their individual dealers.
