With new normal conditions increasing the need for urban-sized trucks on the transport grid, J&T Express Philippines has turned to Hino as they add more than a score of light- and medium-duty haulers to their cargo fleet. The recent turnover of seven Hino 300-series trucks is just the precursor for 30 more Hino units on order by J&T Express.
Manila, 26 November 2020 – Recognizing the importance of small to medium trucks in meeting the rising demand for online shopping and parcel delivery across the country, Hino Motors Philippines (HMP), the exclusive distributor of Hino trucks and buses in the Philippines, recently turned over seven units of the Hino 300 series to local courier service J&T Express Philippines.
The turnover ceremony was led by select representatives from Hino Motors Philippines, Hino Parañaque, and J&T Express.
The turnover ceremony, which was held at the courier’s Bagumbayan, Taguig warehouse, was graced by representatives from Hino Motors Philippines, Hino Parañaque and J&T Express. Physical distancing and other health protocols were strictly observed during the event.
“We extend Total Support to local businesses such as J&T who not only respond to the growing demand for online shopping, but also keep the economy moving. The world hasn’t been the same since March. But our mission of moving people and goods safely and responsibly, a commitment we had for the past 45 years, remains. As we adapt to the new normal, we will be manufacturing more light to medium-duty trucks designed for home deliveries alongside heavy-duty trucks suitable for warehouse deliveries,” shares Hino Motors Philippines Chairman Vicente T. Mills, Jr.
J&T Express Philippines has also ordered 20 units each of the light-duty XZU730L and XZU342LM, and 10 units of the medium-duty FG8J. The trucks are Euro 4-compliant with chassis dimensions and horsepower designed for deliveries.
A trusted name in the assembly and distribution of quality trucks, buses and spare parts, Hino will continue to be at the forefront of addressing modern consumer demands, be these in online shopping, transportation systems or ergonomic vehicles. The event was marked with an on-line press conference on October 5 where IPC president Hajime Koso recollected their first ever sale: “During that time, we only had a total of 12 dealers nationwide. It was Isuzu Davao who first sold the Isuzu NKR85 at P475,000.”

Also during the press conference, IPC marketing head Joseph Bautista pointed out that their 300,000th milestone comes in the face of the dramatic market downturn being experienced with the CoViD-19 global public health crisis. Bautista said that Philippine automakers have reduced total year’s forecast sales volumes from 480,000 down to 240,000 units and that Isuzu Philippines has itself downgraded their 2020 projection to 11,000 vehicles.
No Crosswind comeback, but a new LCV
The bleak forecasts underscore how more than a third of Isuzu’s 300,000-unit sales is for their trademark though discontinued Asian utility vehicles (AUV) lineup. So, inevitably, there were questions about how these future and past numbers might prompt the return of the Isuzu Crosswind. But IPC’s Bautista confirms that no, they are not bringing back their classic, Euro II compliant AUV.
Isuzu Crosswind XUV variant (file photo, 2018)
Started with the Highlander, the very first model they rolled off the factory floor in 1997, and then later smoothed out and epitomized by the long-running Crosswind that was discontinued in 2018, IPC’s AUV line was the bestseller when they were racking up more than 20,000 units in annual sales. Five years ago in 2015, IPC sold their 100,000th Crosswind on their way to selling 22,581 vehicles that year.

Now, instead of the bestselling Crosswind that they discontinued two years ago, IPC is to weather the stormy market with the new Traviz 2.95 ton cab-over truck platform that they introduced last year. And, appropriately, the Traviz fits a slot in their lineup that, offhand, makes it almost as distinctive as the classic Crosswind.
Isuzu Mu-X LS (file photo, 2017)
The Traviz is IPC’s first model in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) category where they’ve had only their pickup trucks, AUVs and SUVs in the past. Its 2950kg gross vehicle weight and compact 2,250 to 2,400mm wheelbase make the Traviz more versatile than the Flexitrucks that Isuzu has been building with their 4,000kg N-series light duty trucks–the lightest among their bigger commercial vehicle category.
Vintage AUV
Ironically, the Traviz retains enough AUV DNA that it might end up as a Crosswind replacement after all. The truck’s engine is the same reliable Isuzu 2.5 liter 4JA1 low-boost turbodiesel that has powered the Crosswind for decades, but with a new high-pressure common-rail direct injection (CRDi) system that affords it enough feed control to attain Euro IV compliance.
Traviz “FB” passenger van (photo by IPC)
When paired with the customary side-seating rear passenger box, the Traviz “FB” van matches the AUV pattern that preceded its incarnation in stamped uni-body wagons such as the Isuzu Highlander predecessor of the Crosswind as well as the equally classic Toyota Revo. Before these wagons, it was the cab, chassis and passenger body combos of older Ford Fieras, Toyota Tamaraws and the like that got labeled as AUVs.

Also, with current public health restrictions requiring generous spacing between passengers, that otherwise 16- or 18-seat Traviz “FB” passenger van might be the only way to retain the capacity that Isuzu owners have come to expect from the 10-seat Crosswind wagon, and this while having a Crosswind’s reliable diesel.
Giving back
During the press conference, from IPC president Hajime Koso: “Allow me to express my sincere appreciation to our shareholders, dealers, suppliers, bodybuilders, media friends, and most especially to our loyal Filipino customers who have untiringly supported Isuzu throughout the years.”

In gratitude for reaching their 300,000th unit milestone, IPC will be implementing the following promotions from October to December this year:
300K thank you big discount promo – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, IPC will give P30,000 additional discount for the D-Max RZ4E and Traviz S (short wheelbase) models, yielding increased discounts of PhP180,000 and PhP130,000, respectively.
Shell GO+ welcome kit – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, all Isuzu buyes will receive free GO+ welcome kits with fuel cards from Isuzu partner Pilipinas Shell.
Drive the 300k promo – until October 31, Isuzu vehicles with odometer readings between 300,000 and 310,000 kms will enjoy a 30 percent discount on servicing fees for parts and labor.
Arigato frontliners program – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, all beyond-warranty Isuzu vehicles owned by frontliners can have quick, oil-change services at any Isuzu dealership for as low as PhP1,700.
Online Tambayan – on three Saturdays this month, Isuzu will hold online meets with their three biggest and most active owners’ clubs–with Mu-X Owners Philippines on October 10, with Team ICE (Isuzu Car Enthusiast) on October 17, and with Team Isuzu Pilipinas on October 24.
IPC has also stepped up their corporate social responsibility efforts in response to the public health crisis.
Since the quarantines started in March, they have been lending vehicles to transport frontliners for various hospitals as part of their “Isuzu Kasamo Mo” campaign, and they’ve been holding drives to donate protective and medical supplies to charitable institutions such as the Philippine Red Cross and Caritas Manila.

Now, IPC is to donate medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE), including surgical facemasks and gloves, to three hospitals–one each in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Beneficiaries will be the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, and the Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro.

Two Hino dealerships on major Metro Manila transport routes have renovated or relocated their storefronts to better serve strategic locations for the major truck brand. Hino Balintawak in Grace Park, Caloocan City on EDSA and has renovated its showroom and Hino Pasig on C5 has moved to a better location along the major beltway.
In their press statement announcing these developments, Hino Philippines observed how new health protocols have made the public uncommonly anxious about common transport, citing this as their reason for supporting the Hino Balintawak renovation and Hino Pasig relocation–moves that improve their service capabilities.
Press Statement of Hino Motors Philippines (HMP), “Hino Balintawak and Hino Pasig dealerships get upgrades,” 2020:
Manila, Philippines | 3 September 2020 – Staying committed to providing highly reliable products and services, Hino Balintawak and Hino Pasig dealers stay abreast of the needs of its customers by upgrading their facilities. This initiative is supported by Hino Motors Philippines (HMP), the exclusive distributor of Hino trucks and buses in the country, as it cements the brand’s Total Support promise.
With different parts of the nation adopting varying state-mandated community health protocols, transportation has become a common concern among commuters and enterprises. Taking into account the rising need for modes of transportation, local market assessments and route considerations, HMP, has extended full support to both the Balintawak and Pasig dealerships in enhancing its overall service to be able to provide its consumers a more seamless experience in these trying times.
Hino Balintawak Full Line dealership façade
The renovated Balintawak showroom is strategically located along #5 EDSA, Brgy. 95 East Grace Park, Caloocan City 1403, easily accessible to motorists and commuters traversing the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx). The area is also convenient for those planning to go to Baguio and other nearby northern provinces through the newly completed Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) as soon as travel is allowed and safe. Furthermore, the Balintawak showroom has Hino’s Full Line 3S complete with sales, spare parts and after-sales services, guaranteeing a smooth and easy access for consumers. The showroom also houses Hino’s light, medium and heavy-duty truck lineup from the 300, 500 and 700 series.
Consequently, to enable more customers to access Hino’s 3S offering, Hino Pasig moved to #80 E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave. (C5), Brgy. Ugong Norte, Quezon City, a few kilometers away from its previous #100 E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue location. The Pasig dealership is housed in a 4,940 sqm. property, providing a bigger space for the light, medium and heavy-duty trucks and the mini, midi and big busses in display. The branch was also recognized as Hino’s 2017 Dealer of the Year because of aggressive and innovative sales programs and continuous, stable, dynamic and seamless business operations.
Service bay of Hino Pasig Full Line dealership
The renovation of the Balintawak showroom and relocation of the Pasig dealership are aligned with Hino’s Dealership Total Support Standardization program, which not only further strengthens HMP’s 45-year foothold in the country but also ensures continued high-quality service in all Hino dealerships nationwide. This move reinforces both the dealers’ and HMP’s promise of bringing high-caliber service to its customers, especially at a time when transportation is most crucial.
“As a company dedicated to contributing to local communities where we do business, HMP stands by its promise, in full support of our dealer-initiated movements, in providing more accessible products and quality services to our customers, considering how crucial a seamless transport of people and goods is these days. Our Total Support promise also led us to provide free shuttle rides to medical frontliners and other commuters as well as in launching an online shop through our official website for a safer platform for use by Filipinos across the country,” HMP President Mitsuharu Tabata shares.
Hino ensures its customers and employees that their health and safety are always the top priority for the company. All Hino dealerships and showrooms comply with the health and safety measures mandated by the Department of Health. Regular checking of temperature and sanitation are strictly observed to maintain a safe and clean environment.
Everyone entering the dealerships is required to hand sanitize with alcohol and wear face mask during the entire stay inside. Only a limited number of customers are allowed at a time in compliance to the community quarantine guidelines for each area across the country.
Chevron Philippines has reintroduced their motorcycle engine oil line-up with C.O.R.E.+ Technology, an improvement over the C.O.R.E. tech they had initially introduced here in 2017.
Grid from Chevron press statement
Fully synthetic, semi-synthetic and conventional mineral Caltex Havoline Super 4T for motorcycles and Havoline Supermatic 4T for scooters now come with the improved C.O.R.E.+ formulation that they assert to deliver better performance and cleaning properties suitable for punishing city traffic conditions.
Screenshot of page on C.O.R.E.+ technology from www.caltex.com/ph
The “E” in C.O.R.E.+ stands for Enhanced acceleration that’s achieved on Super 4T lubricants for manual transmission motorcycles with their proprietary ZoomTech additive which keeps gearboxes cooler and improves clutch grip under heavy loads and in hot climates.
With their extensive line-up of motorcycle engine lubricants, Chevron appears to be gearing up for the expanding role of two-wheelers on the nation’s transport grid, particularly now under quarantine conditions which cut back on public transport capacities.
Press Statement by Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), “Caltex Havoline® new motorcycle products raise the bar for even better overall performance,” 2020:
Enjoy increased reliability and engine efficiency with Havoline’s proprietary C.O.R.E.+ Technology and ZOOMTECH
Manila, Philippines–Caltex Havoline, marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), today unveiled a new generation of four-stroke motorcycle and scooter engine oils that maximizes engine performance and delivers smooth engine operation on all road conditions. The new product line for motorcycles and scooters includes fully synthetic, semi-synthetic and mineral products formulated with Havoline’s signature C.O.R.E.+ Technology, and ZOOMTECH.
All Havoline Super 4T and SuperMatic 4T four-stroke motorcycle and scooter engine oils now come with the upgraded C.O.R.E.+ Technology, Caltex’s most advanced and best-performing formulation. C.O.R.E.+ Technology is an improvement over the previous C.O.R.E. Technology and further addresses key concerns especially in stressful city traffic conditions. These engine oils deliver a more enjoyable riding experience with enhanced engine performance and cleaning properties.
Apart from an upgrade in product technology, the entire Havoline Super 4T and SuperMatic 4T range also meets American Petroleum Institute (API) SN , one of the latest specifications in the industry. Previously, Havoline Super 4T semi-synthetic and mineral products were only meeting API SL specifications. Now, meeting API SN specifications ensures that all Havoline Super 4T and SuperMatic 4T fully synthetic, semi-synthetic and mineral engine oils offer increased high temperature deposits protection for pistons, better wear control, and improved sludge control in urban, stop-and-go riding conditions. Most motorcycle and scooter engine oil brands in the region are only offering a mix of API SJ , SL and SN products.
In a time of a global pandemic, along with keeping one’s health in check, vehicles used for work need to also be in constant tiptop shape. With many motorcyclists using their two-wheelers for urban commuting in their line of work, it is important that Caltex Havoline tailors an engine oil that would be strong enough to stand up to the challenging conditions faced on a daily basis. These include a lack of acceleration when carrying heavy loads and high engine temperatures while stuck in traffic. Reliability is also a key concern, as downtime and money spent on repairs are unnecessary inconveniences.
“Today’s consumers are more discerning with the engine oils they choose, and most demand for better protection and performance of the engine, clutch and gearbox,” said Area Business Manager of Chevron Lubricants for Philippines Hafiz Nasar. “The newest generation of motorcycle engine oils spurs from our success of the previous Havoline motorcycle range and raises the bar for product performance across the industry. We constantly improve and evolve our products to meet the latest industry’s standards, while also keeping abreast of the lubrication requirements of vehicle manufacturers as their engine technology advances.”
Asia-Pacific accounts for 83% of the global two-wheel population, or 524.2 million units in absolute numbers (figures from “Kline Lubricants for Motorcycles, Scooters, and Mopeds. 2017: Global Market Analysis and Opportunities”). This number is only set to grow, fueled by rising urbanization in growing economies of the APAC region and increasing demand for transport in small cities. In 2019, the two-wheeler market in the Philippines hit the 8th all-time record in a row and 5th largest in the world. While the 2020 outlook isn’t good, the industry is expected to have a fast recovery next year.
C.O.R.E.+ Technology
Cleans and protects – Maintains efficient engine performance
Oxidation stability – Protects against oil degradation
Reduces engine heat damage – Delivers continuous and superior oil stability
Enhances acceleration – Improves clutch grip under high loads with ZOOMTECH
In addition, these engine oils (except SuperMatic 4T and Ezy 4T) are also formulated with ZOOMTECH, which delivers better oil frictional properties. For the everyday rider, this improves clutch grip and prevents slippage, especially under high load conditions, and ensures maximum power transfer for enhanced acceleration.
Lastly, the entire range of Havoline Super 4T and SuperMatic 4T engine oils now meet API SN performance specifications, which delivers benefits including:
High temperature piston deposit protection
Improved robustness in wear control
Enhanced oxidation thickening for better lubrication of the engine
Sludge control properties, especially in urban, stop-go conditions
The previously well-received Ride Strong campaign takes on a refreshing new look this year, with a more dynamic set of visuals that covers print, digital and OOH applications. Product labels and cartons have also been redesigned for better legibility.
Caltex range of products for motorcycles and scooters also include:
Caltex Havoline Ezy 4T SAE 20W-40 API SG JASO MA2
Caltex Havoline Scooter Gear Oil SAE 80W-90 API GL-5
Isuzu Philippines opened its Pagadian dealership last Friday, their 43rd storefront in the country and the 3rd to come online among the 11 locations that have already committed to the fresh Isuzu Outlet Standardization (IOS) design initiative. Isuzu Pagadian is operated by North Mindanao Automotive Dealership, Inc. (NMADI), veteran operator of three other dealerships for the brand–Isuzu Butuan, Isuzu Cagayan de Oro and Isuzu Dipolog. The leading truck brand’s new IOS look is meant to emphasize a tough, industrial aesthetic that matches Isuzu’s rugged image while providing roomy and more rational spaces for customers as well as for dealership operations.
NMADI general manager George Ongchua said that their new dealership will also serve the Ozamiz City market which is between Pagadian (near the isthmus bridging the Zamboanga Peninsula with the Northern Mindanao region) and their Isuzu Cagayan de Oro operation to the east. Isuzu Pagadian’s 3,871sqm of floor space features a four-vehicle display showroom, service bays for five light and two full-sized commercial vehicles, a wash bay and wheel alignment facility, and five slots for body repair and painting.
During the official opening event that was broadcast online in a video-conference with motoring media last August 7, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) president Hajime Koso said: “The addition of a new Isuzu dealership in our rapidly expanding network is a strong testament to the growing preference for the Isuzu brand as we continue to widen our reach to our customers in Region 9. This is another major milestone that we share with our new dealer partner North-Min Automotive Dealership Inc, and we look forward to serving our customers in this area with the Isuzu Pagadian.”
Located in Barangay Tiguma in Pagadian City, the new dealership is near the AH26 Pan-Philippine Highway that runs the length of the Mindanao mainland from the northeast, down south and running southwest to the tip of the Zamboanga Peninsula. It’s Wikipedia entry describes Pagadian as the traditional stopover for overland journeys between the old Spanish fort city of Zamboanga and settlements in the north of the peninsula–a topology that’s portrayed anew by how Isuzu Pagadian now compliments Isuzu Zamboanga to the southwest and Isuzu Dipolog to the north.
At the opening event, having described Isuzu as a renowned brand in Mindanao, NMADI’s George Ongchua, further stated that: “Isuzu trucks and light commercial vehicles have proven time and again that they are perfectly suited to the varying and challenging terrains and road conditions of Mindanao. With the establishment of Isuzu Pagadian that is of world-class standards, we are very confident that the good reputation of the Isuzu brand in the region will be extended to its dealership services. Pagadian is one of the most industrialized and business-savvy cities in Mindanao, and we’re very optimistic that people and businesses in this side of the Zamboanga Peninsula will come to us to provide them with Isuzu products and services.”
Last week, with portions of the country still under varied modes of quarantine that had started almost four months ago in March, one of Isuzu’s oldest dealerships became the 11th organization in the country to rebuild their storefront under the leading truckmaker’s new Isuzu Outlet Standardization (IOS) global program.
SMDI president Jockson Liu officiates July 8 groundbreaking (image from IPC)
On July 8, having first taken steps to ensure uninterrupted dealer operations, the Isuzu Davao dealership operated by Southern Motors of Davao, Inc. (SMDI) broke ground on the construction of a new IOS-based showroom building atop the foundations of their decades-old structure at Matina, Davao City. The SMDI organization has roots going back seven decades, pre-dating even the entry of Isuzu into the country initially in the 1970s as partner to General Motors and then subsequently in the 1980s as the separate and distinct Japanese brand that would eventually dominate the market.
The new Isuzu Outlet Standard
Isuzu’s press statement describes the IOS concept as being meant to create settings conducive to customer convenience as well as to smooth business operations, and to reinforce Isuzu’s reputation for rugged, reliable and utilitarian vehicles. In particular, Isuzu Davao’s new showroom building will feature heavy-industry touches that underscore the brand’s success with its truck and stylish utility vehicle product lines.
Isuzu Davao’s new frontage will have expanded metal mesh panels fitted between long girder-like spans painted red–industrial touches familiar to Isuzu’s intended demographic. The interior will be minimalist, with emphasis on customer perspectives as well as on worlkflows to serve these customers. In light of current pandemic conditions, Isuzu Davao’s SMDI president Jockson Liu confirmed that the showroom building will have public health provisions such as multiple personal washing stations and a reception area large enough to be fitted out for ample social distancing.
Construction alongside uninterrupted operations
Scheduled for completion by March 2021, the new showroom’s construction is the latest stage in a rebuilding program that has already gone on for months. Before last week’s groundbreaking they first had to extend a hangar-like roof over the entire expanse of their 10,000sqm lot area that’s about twice as much deep as it is wide. Under this roofed area, they constructed a cafeteria on stilts atop a paint and body repair area at the rearmost portion of the lot, and then temporary sales, admin and services offices adjacent to these.
Construction of temporary offices before and in front of cafeteria loft and paint and body repair section (image from SMDI)
With these moves that leave the all-important vehicle service bays untouched in front of the temporarily constructed offices, Isuzu Davao ensures uninterrupted sales and servicing operations while their old roadside showroom is demolished and completely rebuilt into a modern IOS structure–all these at their current long-held location in Matina at the center of Davao City.

Mr. Liu says: “We at Isuzu Davao are firm and resolute in our decision to carry out the mission of demolishing the old building and constructing a new and modern showroom. We have reached this final phase of construction which I consider like no other. I say this because we will be demolishing and building all in the same location. As we break this ground today, we will lay a stronger foundation that could last another 70 years.”
Decades of Southern Motors and Isuzu Philippines
SMDI president Liu describes the company as having been in operation for seven decades, and having been part of three generations of Filipino families and businesses. Isuzu Davao’s operator traces its history back to the Yutivo group’s Southern Motors, Inc. (SMI) dealership network that was established 71 years ago in 1949. A seller of General Motors (GM) vehicles back then, SMI was later caused by GM to reorganize into three independent companies serving separate and distinct areas of the country: Northern Motors, Inc. for Luzon, Cebu Southern Motors, Inc. for the Visayas, and Southern Motors of Davao, Inc. for Mindanao.

In 1973, the three independent companies became exclusive franchised dealers of newly incorporated General Motors Pilipinas which was GM’s joint venture with Isuzu Motors Ltd. and the Japanese brand’s initial entry into the country. That year, Southern Motors of Davao, Inc., operator of present-day Isuzu Davao and off-shoot of Yutivo group’s circa 1949 Southern Motors, became the exclusive franchised dealer for Southeastern Mindanao of General Motors Pilipinas and a seller of both GM and Isuzu vehicles.
Subsequently, with the Isuzu-GM industrial partnership still active globally, the two brands were separated locally with the establishment in 1989 of Isuzu Motors Pilipinas, a direct subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Ltd. in Japan and an interim step to a full-on manufacturing operation for the country. SMDI became exclusive franchised dealer for Southeastern Mindanao for Isuzu Motors Pilipinas two years later in 1991, and then for present-day Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) in 1996 immediately after IPC’s anticipated establishment and takeover of Isuzu interests here 25 year ago in 1995.
Veteran proponent of new Isuzu initiative
IPC president Hajime Koso recognized Isuzu Davao’s significance and continuing role in bolstering the Isuzu brand, particularly with the new IOS initiative, saying:
“For more than 70 years, Isuzu Davao-SMDI has been in operations catering to clients in Davao City, providing outstanding sales experience and excellent aftersales service. Isuzu Davao has been a leader amongst the network and was even awarded the 2011 Isuzu Dealer of the Year. We in IPC are very proud that Isuzu Davao and its customers will be one of the first to experience the new and improved IOS.”
Hino Motors Philippines (HMP), the country’s second-largest and longest-operating truckmaker, has just introduced the 500-series FL8J, a new 26-ton rigid-frame 10-wheeler truck with an efficiency-oriented 6×2 drivetrain.
New Hino 500 FL8J being introduced by HMP president Mitsuharu Tabata

With a 6-cylinder turbocharged, inter-cooled and directly injected diesel delivering 280PS and 824Nm to the first of its two rear axles, and this through an advanced 9-speed manual gearbox, the FL8J puts equal emphasis on stopping its 26,000kg gross vehicle weight, mounting dual-circuit air-actuated brakes with heavy-duty truck ABS.
The 7480mm between its front and rearmost axles give the new medium-duty Hino 500 FL8J the longest wheelbase in its class
The new Hino 500 FL8J gives the truckmaker the widest lineup of medium-duty trucks in the country and adds that general cargo 6×2 drivetrain option to the existing 6×4 offering on their FM8J 10-wheeler that’s meant for heavy aggregates tipper service.

HMP President Mitsuharu Tabata further highlighted the Hino FL 10-wheeler truck’s significance to Hino’s decades-long mission. “Every part of the new truck unit is engineered to deliver powerful performance. Like its predecessors, the truck bears the premium Japanese quality Hino is globally known for. This new truck embodies Hino’s mission of making the world a better place by helping people and goods get where they need to go – safely, economically and environmentally responsible,” shared Mitsuharu.
Powerful truck performance
The new Hino 500 truck, which has a complete truck model name of FL8J, supports a load capacity of up to 18,620kg and a total gross vehicle weight of 26,000kg. It is powered by Hino J08E, a six-cylinder and Euro 4-compliant engine that delivers increased output, greater cooling, improved fuel efficiency and lower carbon emission.
The truck uses a nine-speed manual transmission system and has 320L fuel capacity. It can reach up to 108kph maximum speed and 2,600rpm maximum engine speed, with 40.4 percent gradeability at full load capacity. Its suspension features semi-elliptical leaf springs on both the front and the rear side.
Improved safety and comfort
Highlighting Hino’s emphasis on safety, the all-new Hino FL truck is equipped with full-air dual circuit brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), featuring leading and trailing shoe brake system with auto brake shoe adjuster and air operated spring brake to assist during parking.
The truck is built with Hino’s Easy Start (ES) technology, which assists the driver in safely maneuvering the vehicle during steep inclines by maintaining a breaking force that prevents the truck from rolling backward and making other accidental movements. The ES technology simultaneously allows the driver to reduce fatigue by resting their feet off the brake pedals and automatically releasing the brakes once the clutch is engaged. This feature, which operates in both forward and reverse gears, optimizes the truck’s overall performance by minimizing maintenance costs through reduced stress placed on the brakes and clutch while boosting driver comfort and safety.
The easy-to-adjust seat suspension system is ergonomically designed to secure a smooth and safe ride for the driver and helps prevent back injuries. The truck’s air conditioning system, power windows and doors are all strategically assembled to boost the driver’s comfort, performance and productivity.
