Isuzu launches Boondock 4×4, tips D-Max lineup towards all-terrain variants

In what is their first-ever online-only launch, an event made virtual by current pandemic conditions, Isuzu Philippines introduces the new D-Max special edition Boondock 4×4 variants via a Facebook premiere today at 5PM.

Market response to the D-Max Boondock 4×2 that they launched in May 2019 was apparently strong enough to compel Isuzu to follow on with an all-terrain version of this limited edition build on the top-spec LS-A variant of their popular D-Max pickup.

Priced at P1.795M for the AT variant and at P1.725M for the MT, the new Boondock 4×4 appears to replace the Boondock 4×2 in Isuzu Philippines’ D-Max lineup, with their official pricelist now showing only the all-terrain variants of this special edition. Those SRPs are before a P95k discount that Isuzu is offering under their “Monsoon Promo” until the end of June 2020.

The Boondock 4×4 also re-balances the D-Max line-up. Of the 10 double-cab D-Max variants (distinct from the sole single cab bare chassis utilitarian variant), 5 now have 4×4 drivetrains … putting muscle behind their campaign and off-roader challenge to “Live Life Differently.”

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH’s 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 online launch dares off-roaders to go beyond normal,” 2020:

At exactly 5 p.m. on June 17, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) digitally launches via Facebook Live the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, Isuzu’s ultimate off-roader and the perfect vehicle to herald IPC’s motoring lifestyle campaign—“Live Life Differently”—that boldly responds to the challenges of the new normal.

This would be IPC’s first-ever digital launch, marking the world-renowned truckmaker’s innovative response in the “new normal”.

Within the “Live Life Differently” mantra, IPC encourages its clients and would-be customers to discover the endless possibilities of driving an Isuzu vehicle. To “Live Life Differently” would mean to simply go beyond the comfort of our homes, to explore the outdoors, and open ourselves up to more adventures, all the while driving an Isuzu vehicle.

With the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, to “Live Life Differently” now gives the off-roader the added confidence to take his or her adventures a notch tougher, higher, and farther.

IPC President Hajime Koso proudly introduced the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 as “purposely named after the mountains. The Boondock boasts rough and rugged styling, coupled with the exceptional engine performance of Isuzu – perfect for off-road driving.”

No other pickup can symbolize the Filipino off-roader’s re-emergence from months of home confinement than the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, which has been designed to handle practically all types of terrain: sand, gravel, riverbed, mud, and rocks.

Built upon the popular 3.0L D-MAX 4×4 LS-A model, the Boondock trademark adds an even tougher, more rugged image with the tried-and-tested performance to back it up, making it the ideal pickup for the Filipino motorist looking for that one vehicle to embody the “can-do” attitude of a true off-roader.

The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is powered by the Euro-4 compliant 4JJ1-TCX 4-Cylinder in-line Blue Power 3.0-liter diesel engine with VGS turbo charger and intercooler mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with gearshift indicator or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift, able to generate maximum power outputs of 177 PS at 3,600 RPM and 380 N-m of torque at 1,800 to 2,800 RPM.

This level of power and efficiency is also expressed in the D-MAX Boondock’s design and accessories. The monotube nitrogen-charged front and rear shock absorber ensures instantaneous response to changing road conditions, offering faster damping reaction. The result is an improved steering control in whatever terrain and driving condition.

Steel side steps not only offer easy access but valuable protection to the pickup body. Its honeycomb design with the “Boondock” logo is also easy to clean and provides better traction during ingress and egress.

The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is fitted with 265/70 R17 all-terrain tires wrapped around matte black off-road rally type design R17 rims. The Boondock decal on the tailgate is now paired with a new hood and body customized graphics that pays tribute to the country’s highest “boondock”, Mt. Apo.

The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 comes in the following colors: Red Spinel, Cosmic Black, Titanium Silver, and Silky Pearl White.

The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is now available in AT and MT variants, with introductory prices of P1.725 million (MT) and P1.795 million (AT). As a part of Isuzu’s Monsoon Promo, a P95,000 discount is available until the end of June.

Isuzu punches up ‘Live Life Differently’ campaign with upcoming Facebook launch of new D-Max Boondock 4×4

A week from this Wednesday, on the 17th of June, Isuzu Philippines will launch the new all-terrain variant of the special Boondock edition of their popular D-Max pickup. To be done on Facebook, social media that’s been massively mainstreamed in the face of the global pandemic, the “Live Life Differently” launch is as much an introduction of the latest rendering of their top-spec pickup as it is a reminder of the resilience of Isuzu Philippines and their famously rugged utility vehicles.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH rallies motorists to ‘Live Life Differently’ with its new D-MAX Boondock 4×4, digital launch scheduled June 17 via Facebook,” 2020:

For Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the nearly three months that Filipino motorists and families spent with each other in the relative safety of their homes during the various stages of the community quarantines have imparted valuable life lessons and inspiration to live a life unlike they had before.

IPC President Hajime Koso conveys a message of hope for the Filipino people, IPC employees, and Isuzu customers: “We will emerge even stronger from every challenge. You can count on IPC to support you in your efforts to rebuild and recover. We support the Filipino people and its leaders as we get back on track to global greatness.”

In this light, IPC’s new campaign “Live Life Differently”, conceptualized just before this public health crisis began, now takes on a more meaningful light.

The “Live Life Differently” campaign encourages IPC’s clients and would-be customers to discover the endless possibilities of driving an Isuzu vehicle. To “Live Life Differently” would mean to simply go beyond the comfort of our homes, to explore the outdoors, and open ourselves up to more adventures, all the while driving an Isuzu vehicle.

The campaign is now the rallying cry for the new Isuzu D-MAX Boondock 4×4, which will be digitally launched via Facebook at 5 p.m. on June 17, 2020. This will be IPC’s first online vehicle launch, and it is but fitting that the campaign will be carried by Isuzu’s ultimate off-roader, that is now made available in 4×4 variant both for manual and automatic transmissions.

Mr. Koso stresses, “We move on from every challenge, and with every obstacle we hurdle, we must live life differently to be able to be tougher, more resilient, more enduring, and more dependable. The new D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is our response to the toughest challenge we have faced yet.”

Now, as the nation gradually reopens its economy and finds new opportunities, Isuzu and its “Live Life Differently” campaign can help the country build a roadmap to an even more robust transport economy and be the Filipino motorists’ vehicle to renew and strengthen bonds with one another.

Isuzu remains top brand in BFP fleet service, adds initial delivery of 74 fire trucks under national firefighting modernization program

With an initial delivery of 74 new fire trucks last month, Isuzu continues to be a preferred brand for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as the government now implements its Fire Prevention Modernization Program. Latest data published by the BFP through the Open Data Philippines portal at data.gov.ph show the Isuzu brand on 742 units or one-third (32 percent) of the 2,050 BFP-owned fire trucks that are in service as of 31 June 2017. This makes the premium Japanese brand the BFP fleet’s top maker by a wide margin, followed by China brands Jiangte and Dongfeng in distant second and third place with 241 and 213 units in the BFP fire trucks fleet, respectively.

The 74 new fire trucks (54 new Isuzu FVR34 1,000-gallon capacity pumpers and 20 new Isuzu CYZ52 2,500-gallon tankers) increase by 10 percent the 742 Isuzu trucks (20 ladder, 47 minipumper, 625 pumper and 50 tanker fire-trucks) that are already in BFP service as of June 2017. And with Isuzu trucks averaging 20 years in service, this compared to the 16.5-year average for the BFP’s entire fleet which saw an influx of hundreds of China-brand minipumpers in recent years, this initial batch of 74 new fire trucks, so far, freshens up the fleet to an in-service average of 18 years for Isuzu trucks, 16 years for all brands in general.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH delivers first batch of fire trucks for BFP modernization program,” 2020:

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the country’s leading manufacturer and distributor of brand-new trucks for 20 consecutive years, turned over the initial 74 units of firetrucks to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

In a formal ceremony held on February 11 at the grounds of Camp Emilio Aguinaldo, BFP Chief Jose Embang Jr. and its officers led the presentation of the brand-new fire trucks to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, as part of the government’s Fire Prevention Modernization Program.

In his speech, Duterte said, “I hope that with these fire trucks, the BFP will be more capable and effective in ensuring the safety of our community and industry. I am confident that with the BFP’s leadership, we can further boost people’s confidence in their government and create an environment where our people can live and work in peace.”

Present during the event, were IPC’s President Hajime Koso and Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan (IML) General Manager Koichi Ito to personally deliver the units. “IPC, and the Isuzu brand in general, has always been on a mission to contribute to the society by providing the most durable, reliable trucks—may it be for building bridges, airports, and this time in protecting the community against fire. With the recent country situation—the big fire in the metro, ashfall and cleaning operations in CALABARZON and of course the upcoming Fire Prevention Month, we feel that these trucks may be in the right timing, as BFP now more than ever needs to continue to protect and serve the country against fire and other calamities,” Koso said.

Ito, who flew in from Japan to witness the proceedings, remarked, “Isuzu has always been supportive of providing the best vehicles to the society. In Japan in particular, you will see a lot of private and government trucks produced by Isuzu, like these fire trucks and just recently high-performance ambulances for the recent virus prevention, which is why we are very happy that the Philippines is doing the same.”

“It is very humbling that the BFP has put in their confidence in our brand and in return we promise to never let them down. As our client, we will provide to bureau not just quality product but full customer service,” Ito added.

The initial 74 Isuzu fire trucks are part of BFP modernization program procured and to be distributed to different regions nationwide. This program which aims to hire more firefighters, provide intensive trainings, and acquire modern fire truck and equipment to upkeep their operations.

SSUPT Jerry Candido, BFP Director for Logistics, expressed pride in the bureau’s acquisition of brand-new units, “Basically, there are three main components we look for in a fire truck; its platform – engine & chassis, water tank, and fire pump. When we saw that the engine & chassis brand of this truck was Isuzu, our first comment was “Wow, that’s a quality truck!”

The first batch of delivery includes, 54 units of Isuzu FVR34 trucks with body and equipment built by Hanseo, which is a 16-tonne truck that has a capacity to carry 1,000 gallons perfect for medium to heavy operations, powered by the 6HK1TCL engine that can produce up to 240 PS maximum power and 706 N-m maximum torque.

While the remaining 20 units of Isuzu CYZ52 trucks, were installed with body and equipment by Nanomedics, that can carry a total 2,500 gallons, powered by 6WG1TCN direct injection common rail engine that can deliver maximum 420 PS of power, maximum torque of 1,863 N-m, and is EURO V compliant.

As the number 1 truck brand in country, IPC gave assurance that the BFP will have full support wherever the trucks may be deployed in the country. Present in 43 locations nationwide, IPC offers excellent after sales support and guaranteed parts availability.

IPC also extends its service via its “Mobile Medic” which are built on light-duty trucks fully equipped to provide complete service that the company dispatches for PMS, rescue or repowering services specially to far-flung areas.

Pilipinas Autogroup unveils Dongfeng Marikina corporate storefront and Class 2 modern PUV

Pilipinas Autogroup, Inc. (PAI), the distributor of Tata Motors since 2014 and now also of Dongfeng commercial vehicles since last October, has unveiled the newly renovated storefront at their corporate headquarters in Marikina City. Their block-long building on Fernando Avenue in Marikina now features red-themed Dongfeng brand imagery, replacing the previous blue-dominated visuals for their Tata Motors brand.

The newly unveiled Dongfeng Marikina storefront

PAI markets Dongfeng’s range of light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and while examples of these models were conspicuous during the unveiling, both in their stockyard and as explicit display units, these were upstaged by the brand’s take on what a modern public utility jeepney should be. Also introduced during the unveiling of their Marikina premises last month was their initial entry for the country’s modernized public utility vehicle (PUV) program.

The Dongfeng Class 2 modern PUV

The Dongfeng Class 2 modern PUV has the distinction of being brought in as a completely built-up (CBU) unit, this in contrast to typical rivals with bodies built by local contractors like Centro, Almazora and Santa Rosa Motors. Powered by a 113hp/260Nm Dongfeng D28D11 that’s a re-badge of a license-built and Euro IV compliant Isuzu 4JB1 2.8 liter intercooled turbodiesel, theirs is also the modern PUV with the smallest displacement diesel engine available–an advantage in crawling city traffic.

License-built Euro IV compliant 2.8 liter Isuzu 4JB1 inter-cooled turbo-diesel powering Dongfeng’s Captain E light duty truck and Class 2modern PUV

Ramping up to Dongfeng’s official launch in the country this March, according to PAI vice president and general manger Art Balmadrid, the Marikina front office joins their growing network which started off with their Cainta dealerhip in October and which was followed soon after by their stores in Tacloban, Isabela, and Pampanga. Balmadrid mentioned that the day after the Marikina unveiling last December 17, his team would be heading to Davao to finalize the agreement to secure their dealership, their sixth nationwide, in that key city.

Ribbon cutting for the new Dongfeng Marikina storefront at PAI’s corporate headquarters in Marikina

During the unveiling last December 17 the traditional blessing of their Marikina premises brought visitors and guests through PAI’s technical service area, product training center and central parts warehouse. Balmadrid said the tour shows how PAI’s Dongfeng distributorship backstops their sales activities with strong after-sales service capabilities.

Dongfeng is the biggest truck brand in China and Balmadrid says, “the Dongfeng dealership was actually offered to us because, as you know, we are also the distributors of Tata vehicles which is also the biggest automotive brand in India.” Balmadrid who joined PAI after being senior vice president with Isuzu Philippines Corporation, the leading truckmaker in the country, added that “the price of Dongfeng compared to typical Japanese brands would be about 25 to 30 percent cheaper, and the quality itself is at par with Japanese brands.”

Shedding light on how Dongfeng attains this level of quality, Balmadrid said, ” Dongfeng vehicles are products of joint ventures with automotive giants such as Nissan, Volvo, Renault, Cummins and other well known brands.” These linkages were apparent in the other vehicles that were showcased during the unveiling.

ZNA Rich 6 pickup to be marketed by PAI under their Dongfeng brand

Previewed at the December 17 unveiling was the Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile (ZNA) Rich 6 pickup truck, product of the Dongfeng group’s joint venture with Nissan. Powered by a 148PS/305Nm 2498cc inter-cooled turbo-diesel with high-pressure common rail direct injection, Euro V compliance and telematics for on-board diagnostics, the Rich 6 is apparently built on the same platform used for the Japanese brand’s bestselling Navara pickup (with both the Rich 6 and the Navara having a 3150mm wheelbase). The Nissan Navara was the top-selling pickup truck in 2019.

Dongfeng ER30  hatchback EV

Also displayed and demonstrated was the Dongfeng ER30D fully electric hatchback featuring a 60kW permanent magnet motor and a driving range of over 250km with each full charge of its 30kWh battery array. The ER30’s 2450mm wheelbase argues against it being based on Nissan’s longer and globally top-selling Leaf EV but it does make it look like a slightly stretched adaptation of the 2440mm wheelbase, front-wheel-drive platform of the current-model Mirage hatchback–this OEM arrangement possibly set up through the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

Isuzu finishes 2019 strong with two new Mindanao dealerships

While retaining their decades-long dominance of the Philippine truck market in 2019, Isuzu Philippines also finished the year strong with agreements for two new Mindanao dealerships–Isuzu Tagum and Isuzu Pagadian.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu Philippines inks 2 Mindanao dealership agreements,” 2019:

Bolstering its presence in the Mindanao regions for having one of the most promising growth potentials for the automotive and transport industries in the years to come, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) conducted formal signing ceremonies for two new dealerships last December 19, 2019.

Held at the Isuzu Philippines head office in Biñan, Laguna, the first dealership agreement signed was between IPC and Isuzu Tagum, with President Hajime Koso and Executive Vice President Shojiro Sakoda representing IPC, and President Walter Alvarez and Managing Director Edward Bangayan representing Image Motors Davao Del Norte Inc, signing for Isuzu Tagum.

The second ceremony was between IPC and Isuzu Pagadian, signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Mr. George Ongchua, General Manager of Northern Mindanao Automotive Dealership Inc., for the establishment of a satellite office in Pagadian City.

Isuzu Tagum is strategically located at the northern portion of Southern Mindanao and lies in the intersection of three major road network system namely the ‘Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway’, the ‘Davao-Mati-Agusan Road’, and the ‘Davao-Bukidnon Road’ that connects the city to other major destinations in the region and for the rest of Mindanao.

As the city serves as a vital economic crossroad not only for the province, but for the entire Davao Region, the new Isuzu dealership is strategically situated in at Brgy. Canocotan, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

On the other hand, Isuzu Pagadian is positioned at the regional center of Zamboanga Peninsula and the second-largest city in the region, bridging its nearby provinces to serve and provide quality Isuzu products, excellent after-sales service, and to become the most competitive transportation hub in the region.

Agriculture is the main economic resource of Pagadian, while several large deep-sea fishing vessels which venture into the Sulu Sea and West Philippine Sea, make Pagadian fish port their base of operation.

Establishing Isuzu presence in Pagadian will be the response to its growing transportation and logistics requirements, most especially for Isuzu trucks.

Isuzu Pagadian and Isuzu Tagum will feature the newest Isuzu showroom design that provides a better atmosphere and better kind of service. Both dealerships also comprise the strategic “triangle” of supply and service of world-class Isuzu vehicle brands in Mindanao, covering Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Davao Region.

Isuzu Tagum held its groundbreaking ceremony last July 11, 2019 and the soon to rise dealership in Tagum will be completed in May 2020, while Isuzu Pagadian dealership will be completed in February 2020.

Isuzu Philippines turns over 6 heavy duty tippers to 36 year-old major earthmoving contractor Anseca

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the country’s top-ranked truckmaker, has delivered six heavy duty tipper trucks to Anseca Development Corporation. Anseca, the major earthmoving contractor, has been operating since 1983, pre-dating IPC’s own establishment in 1995 by a dozen years, and has ongoing projects for cement-maker giant Holcim Philippines and for Philex Mining.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu Philippines turns over 6 CYH52S dump trucks to Anseca,” 2019:

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the country’s leading manufacturer, assembler, and distributor of brand-new trucks, turned over 6 CYH52S trucks to Anseca Development Corporation.

In a formal ceremony held at Holcim Mining, officials of IPC, Isuzu Cebu Inc, and the Isuzu Mandaue dealership turned over the trucks and the symbolic key to representatives of Anseca and Holcim Philippines.

The six brand-new CYH52S with 20 cubic meter dump trucks represents Anseca’s additional fleet of Isuzu trucks and are seen to play key roles in the daily operations in Anseca’s current partnership with Holcim Philippines.

Steve M. Gingco, General Manager of Isuzu Cebu Inc, said, “The CYH52 trucks are durable, heavy-duty trucks equipped with eco-friendly diesel technology, which can take on any load or road challenge. They deliver bigger payload capacity, covering a wide variety of applications, designed to handle all kinds of work under normal or tough conditions. With bigger load capacities, the higher the productivity you can expect from our Isuzu trucks.”

Anseca, an enterprise primarily engaged in earthmoving and allied activities, began its operations in 1983 and has since successfully completed 24 projects with clients such as the Philippine National Oil Corporation, Del Monte Philippines, Sta. Lucia Realty & Development Corp, Vista Land, Atlas Consolidated Mining & Development Corp, and Cemex Corp. It now has a series of ongoing projects with Holcim Philippines, Philex Mining, and Libjo Mining.

In his message at the formal turnover ceremony, IPC Executive Vice President Shojiro Sakoda reiterated that, among the many reasons for IPC’s market dominance over the years, the ability to meet customers’ ever-changing needs has always been a priority.

“IPC continues its market dominance in trucks for 20 consecutive years, dating back to 1999; and for decades, Isuzu has been known globally for its durable, dependable, and reliable trucks that can withstand any challenges in transport operations. With our collaboration with local body builders, our trucks have also been crafted to be suitable for whatever purposes our customers demand. Equally important is the aftersales support we provide to our clients along with every purchase—this is the Isuzu Advantage.”

The Isuzu Advantage is the sum of IPC’s different customer support programs bolstering its world-class lineup of vehicles. The first advantage is IPC’s roster of durable, reliable, fuel-efficient commercial vehicles. The second is its nationwide dealer network that now nears 50 outlets complete with servicing facilities. The third is the reliable and prompt nationwide parts availability. Finally, IPC’s team of expert service technicians and field support personnel are on call to provide technical assistance whenever and wherever needed.

“As your responsible partner, IPC guarantees to provide world-class vehicles and outstanding after-sales services to our clients,” Mr. Sakoda concluded.
