Toyota advocates mature financial resiliency for weathering the pandemic

With a statement on distinguishing needs from desires in evaluating expenditures (full text included below), Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) advocates the following for young professionals to weather the COVID-19 crisis:

  • Smart budgeting – TMP suggests ways for managing monthly expenses including the Toyota Financial Services’ Balloon Payment Plus promo for easing the burden of car ownership with lower down-payment and monthly amortization schedules.
  • Cautious spending – Toyota recommends circumspect shopping and remaining alert for consumer incentives like rebates and discounts as well as value-add programs such as their offer for free PMS, free insurance and extended warranty terms for the popular Vios sedan (see https://toyota.com.ph/promos/tomorrowstartstoday).
  • Active investing – They suggest being open to opportunities to acquire useful assets that make sense in light of reduced public services. For safer, more secure transport, Toyota points to their popular Vios compact sedan as a compelling personal vehicle investment. Among the few car models still assembled here, the Vios with its proven durability and high resale value is offered in a wide range of variants.

Press Statement by Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP), “Adulting in a Pandemic 101: Learning to differentiate needs from wants and making big-ticket decisions,” 2021:

Today’s challenging circumstances underscore the importance of proper financial management among millennials and Gen Zs.

Manila, Philippines l May 07, 2021: The global pandemic has caught everyone off-guard. While health and safety remains top priority,  staying afloat may be the biggest challenge of millennials and Gen Zs  young lives thus far. With many getting pay cuts or losing jobs, learning to manage personal finances as soon as possible is a large part of adulthood.

Pay-bills

Here are a few things young adults should ponder on and start doing even while in quarantine:

Learn Budgeting

Now is a good time to start a budget. Apply the 50-30-20 rule. Allocate 50% of income towards basic necessities, 30% for leisure and 20% towards financial goals. Take note of billing due dates and pay on time. Use an Excel spreadsheet, an app or even a pen and paper to keep track of expenses.

Look for ways to reduce monthly expenses. Whether that’s subscribing to only one streaming service, downgrading mobile postpaid plan or switching to prepaid or unplugging devices when not in use, the savings from these can go a long way towards improving one’s overall personal financial health.

Financing options such as Toyota Financial Services’ Balloon Payment Plus makes car ownership easier with lower down payment and monthly terms, already inclusive of periodic maintenance services. Such packages make spending lighter on the monthly budget, with guaranteed great resale value options by the end of the term.

Spend Wisely

The pandemic has made everyone’s future a little uncertain so it’s best to be cautious with spending. Distinguish between wants and needs. This applies to the 100 items in one’s online shopping cart. Think long and hard before hitting that checkout button.

When grocery shopping, assess the household’s current supplies and buy only enough for the whole family. Have a shopping list and stick to it as well.

Take advantage of cashbacks and rewards program. Plenty of companies nowadays offer cashback and rewards incentives for every purchase or for paying bills on time.

For big purchases, always go for value for money and explore available instalment plans to make payments lighter on the pocket. One is sure to get their money’s worth with Toyota Vios not only for being a quality and durable car, but also for its added value benefits such as free periodic maintenance service (PMS), extended warranty, or free car insurance.  Worried about shelling out a lot money? With Toyota’s myriad of available financing solutions from low downpayment schemes to discounts, owning the Vios is made as affordable as possible.

Start or Keep Investing

There are many forms of investment one can do even while in quarantine.

Building and diversifying financial investment portfolios is a good idea for young adults. With retirement decades away, not only is there more time to learn and recover from possible losses, investing can also help one achieve financial freedom earlier.

With work from home and less socializing still the norm, another investment worth considering is learning. Take up a new language. Read more books. Enroll in an online certification course. Investing in education is a great way to help increase one’s personal development and professional value.

Some big ticket items are also worth investing on during this period. With persisting limited transportations due to quarantine restrictions, having a car can provide more flexible mobility when traveling to work, the grocery store or running errands since there’s no need to queue in line, waiting for a ride. More importantly, Gen Zs and millennials can reduce their exposure to the virus by driving their own car. Experts advise to be at least 6 feet away from people but with public transportation, this may be more challenging to follow.

An excellent investment for first-time car owners looking for a safe and reliable mode of transportation, the Toyota Vios delivers performance that levels up the lifestyle. Recently named as the Most Reliable Car Brand for 2020 , Toyota offers more than what meets the eye. With an array of variants to choose from, the Toyota Vios is easy to maintain, has a spacious interior, and boasts an impressive engine performance that provides a driving experience that can withstand the knocks of daily errands. Depending on one’s goals, one can avail of the XE variant for that everyday practical car, or grab the recently launched Toyota Vios GR-S that comes with a track-ready aesthetic – both in its interior and exterior. And if along the line one is considering to upgrade, a Toyota vehicle has an impressive resale value – truly a bang for one’s buck.

Chevron rolls out ten new Caltex storefronts in Q1 2021

After being hindered by health crisis disruptions last year, Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI) started this year strong, pushing for significant growth in their network of Caltex service stations as well as their Caltex-Havoline automotive services workshops.

Bringing their network to nearly 650 locations nationwide, CPI added eight new Caltex service stations for the Luzon island group:

North Luzon

  1. On southbound lane side of MacArthur Highway, Barangay Paras, Candon City, Ilocos Sur
  2. Along Maharlika Highway in San Mateo, Isabela
  3. On the Naguilian-Baguio route at Barangay Ortiz, Naguilian, La Union

South Luzon

  1. On Pulo Diezmo road in Cabuyao, Laguna
  2. In Barangay Tinga, Batangas City, Batangas

Palawan

  1. On South road, Barangay Bataraza, Puerto Princesa
  2. On South road at Poblacion, Rio Tuba
  3. On North road, Barangay San Manuel, Puerto Princesa

And, bringing their set of Caltex-Havoline autoPro and bikePro service centers to 75 workshops,  CPI added two new locations–one for North Luzon and another for Davao City in Mindanao:

  1. Caltex-Havoline autoPro workshop open Mondays to Saturdays from 8AM to 5PM and located at F. Julian street in Barangay 2 along Pila Road in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
  2. Caltex Havoline autoProx workshop open Mondays to Saturdays from 8AM to 6PM and located at the diversion road on Diosdado Macapagal Highway, Ma-a, Davao City

Press Statement by Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), “Caltex accelerates network growth in Q1 to help fuel a recovering economy,” 2021:

Manila, Philippines, April 16, 2021– Posting strong network growth in the first quarter of 2021, Caltex, marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), warmly embraces the dry season by boosting its retail network with eight newly-opened service stations and two Caltex Havoline autoPro workshop openings in key provinces.

Bolstering its network of nearly 650 service stations and 75 Caltex Havoline autoPro and bikePro workshops at present, Caltex seeks to cater to the fuel and car maintenance needs of both local and transient motorists nationwide this season.

Travel better by tanking up at more Caltex stations

Motorists heading up north can stop for refueling at the recently inaugurated service station in Brgy. Paras, Candon City, Ilocos Sur. Situated along the southbound lane of the MacArthur highway, the service station is now ready to power motorists coming to and from Metro Manila and other provinces. Candon City is regarded as the “Tobacco Capital of the Philippines” and is also notable for its C-shape landmass.

Another Caltex station opened in San Mateo, Isabela, ready to perk up the daily drives of motorists in the area. This service station is strategically located along the country’s principal transport backbone, Maharlika Highway, which connects Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. San Mateo is also an agro-ecological area known as the largest producer of mung beans or munggo in the country.

The second Caltex service station in Naguilian, La Union also rose in Brgy. Ortiz, the focal hub of the town’s commercial activities. This station caters to motorists going to and from Baguio City. Naguilian is an agricultural town that is home to the original Basi, a native fermented beverage made from sugarcane.

In South Luzon, Caltex recently opened two stations in Pulo Diezmo Road, Cabuyao and Brgy. Tinga, Batangas City to serve quality fuels to private vehicles and commercial fleets travelling around the provinces of Laguna and Batangas. Cabuyao is often called the “Golden Bell City” while the cove-shaped Batangas City is dubbed as the “Industrial Port City of CALABARZON.” The two areas are home to historical landmarks, beaches, and gastronomic cuisines.

Locals and tourists basking in the splendor of the tropical paradise of Palawan can also fill up their vehicle tanks at the newly-opened Caltex stations to power a blissful escapade around the island. The three Caltex stations are situated in South Road, Brgy. Bataraza, Puerto Princesa; South Road, Poblacion, Rio Tuba, and North Road, Brgy. San Manuel, Puerto Princesa. Motorists can also opt to visit the commercial stalls around the roadside stations for refreshments. Palawan takes pride in its pristine beaches and coastlines, picturesque cave formations, and prized delicacies.

The [eight] Caltex stations deliver the premium Euro 4 compliant fuel Caltex with Techron to guarantee motorists higher vehicle performance, cleaner engines, and lower emissions. Caltex also maintains strict health protocols and offers cashless payment options to ensure safer drives for motorists and to further the country’s recovery.

Conquer longer roads with more maintenance hubs

Aside from its service station openings, two new Caltex Havoline autoPro workshops were also opened in Luzon and Mindanao. Motorists in Ilocos Norte needing a vehicle tune-up can make a pit stop at the newly-opened Northbound Auto Care site located at Brgy. 2, F. Julian St., Pila Road, Laoag City. Open on Mondays to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this autoPro workshop is ready to provide quality Caltex lubricant products and services, such as maintenance checks and car repairs.

Caltex-1st-qtr-2021-b

The second recently-opened Caltex Havoline autoPro workshop stands along Diosdado Macapagal Highway, Diversion Road, Ma-a, Davao City. On top of its quality automotive products, this one-stop vehicle maintenance workshop has quick service bays for oil and fluid change, ancillary bays for minor repairs, and wash bays for car cleaning. It operates from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is open from Mondays to Saturdays.

Motorists and gearheads alike are guaranteed the best possible experience the moment they drive in at the Caltex Havoline autoPro and bikePro workshops as these sites have quality Caltex lubricant products, accommodating frontline staff, well-trained mechanics, and modern facilities that can make them feel secure. The two workshops cater to cars and motorcycles, respectively.

“Not only can motorists enjoy a wonderful, uninterrupted ride with our top-tier fuels and lubricants, but also experience high level of customer service, less waiting time for gassing up with more efficient digital payment options, and exciting rewards. Caltex continues to offer these services to bring a safer and next-level travel experience for motorists nationwide. We also remain committed to expanding our network in the country’s remote regions and in urban areas where commerce thrives to help buoy up the Philippine economy. Sa Caltex, tuloy-tuloy ang biyahe,” CPI Country Chairman Billy Liu said.

This year, Caltex continues to ramp up its retail portfolio by adding more Caltex stations and Caltex Havoline autoPro and bikePro workshops to serve many Filipinos nationwide. Isuzu Philippines launches next-gen D-Max with DNA that improves on Chevrolet and Ford rivals and upgrades Mazda counterpart

Isuzu Philippines has just launched the next-generation D-Max and this new model’s lineage covers so much ground against rival brands that it’s been top of mind here since the global launch out of Thailand back in October 2019. The new model improves on the second generation D-Max which has underpinnings shared with GM’s Chevrolet Colorado that’s the platform for the US Army’s new Infantry Squad Vehicle, and represents an upgrade to the Mazda BT-50 which was previously based closely (same chassis and engine options) on the current generation (T6) Ford Ranger.

For this third iteration of their popular mid-size pickup truck, Isuzu discontinued an engineering partnership with Chevrolet that’s been in place since the 1970’s for developing three generations of Isuzu Faster models and the two Isuzu D-Max generations that succeeded these. The platform of the previous generation D-Max and current generation Chevrolet Colorado will likely be forked off and continued since it now serves as foundation to the winning prototype for the US Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicle, initial volumes for which were delivered in October 2020 (a year after the third generation D-Max was launched globally).

Influencing D-Max development now is new ally Mazda. In July 2016, three years into the D-Max’s six-year development period, Isuzu was appointed as OEM of Mazda’s next generation BT-50 pickup truck.  Similar to Isuzu’s linkage with Chevrolet, Mazda had been relying on Ford Ranger foundations since the 1990’s for their final generation B2500 pickup and two generations of the BT-50 model that succeeded this.  Now, based closely on the latest generation D-Max complete with its trademark Isuzu 3.0 and 1.9 liter turbodiesel engine options, the third generation Mazda BT-50 was launched globally in June 2020, just a few months after its counterpart Isuzu model. Isuzu Philippines President Hajime Koso confirms that Isuzu Thailand runs assembly lines for supplying this market with D-Max trucks and other markets with the new Mazda BT-50 model.  (Mazda Philippines which recently introduced their BT-50 limited edition Pangolin variant still has the Ford-based second-generation model on offer.)

Key specs

On the new D-Max that Isuzu asserts to be stronger and safer, we noted the following integral features (characteristics that come with the package and cannot be straightforwardly acquired or added on with aftermarket enhancements):

  1. The new 4JJ3-TCX top-spec 3.0 liter engine option delivers 190PS @ 3600rpm (a 17PS increase in power) and 450NM @ 1600~2600rpm (a 70NM increase in torque that breaks through the 400NM threshold), all these reportedly by improving on the previous generation’s 4JJ1-TCX with …
    • a new cylinder head
    • a new cylinder block
    • new pistons
    • a new Denso-sourced fuel injection system delivering 25 percent more pressure and 20 percent more efficiency
  1. Improved balance and handling with a slightly longer wheelbase as well as the engine being moved back and mounted with its center slightly behind the front axle, in front mid-ship position
  1. Rationalized engine and fuselage layouts that result in a slightly shorter overall length (5.277m versus 5.295m before) that nevertheless bounds what is essentially a larger model with its lengthened wheelbase (3.125m versus 3.095m before) and cargo bay (1.570m versus 1.485m before)
  1. Stronger, bigger-boned proportions that put taller shoulders on its full body length, and stiffer shortened pillars and a squat squinty windscreen cage on its reinforced cabin
  1. A ladder frame with expanded cross-section and improved placement of cross-members, as asserted by Isuzu, that make it lighter but also 23 percent stiffer than before
  1. Fuselage and undercarriage engineering that increase the D-Max’s ground clearance (0.240m on top-spec 4×4 variants) and permit Isuzu to officially assert a maximum wading depth of 0.800m (which, on the D-Max, is well above the usual benchmark of the midpoint of a vehicle’s wheels)

Further, with the third generation D-Max, Isuzu Philippines introduces a new top-spec variant, the LS-E, that exclusively features automated conveniences as well as their Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) package with safety telematics for forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights high-beam, and lane departure alarm.

Price points

As stated by Isuzu Philippines Vice President for Sales Yasuhiko Oyama during the launch event last March 4, introductory prices for the new third-generation D-Max will remain at par with the price-points of the previous model.  Although, with the addition of a top-spec variant featuring first world telematics, prices of their 9 variants now show a notable P0.968M spread between the P0.857M SRP for the single-cab 4×2 MT base configuration and the P1.825M list price for their new LS-E 4×4 AT top-of-the-line variant.

2021 / third-generation D-Max variant list prices (in PHP million)

3.0 4×4 LS-E AT__________ 1.825
3.0 4×2 LS-A AT________ 1.390
3.0 4×4 LS MT_________ 1.630
3.0 4×2 LS MT_______ 1.320
RZ4E 4×2 LS AT______ 1.309
RZ4E 4×2 LS MT____ 1.219
3.0 4×4 LT MT_____ 1.288
RZ4E 4×2 LT MT___ 0.987
RZ4E 4×2 Single Cab MT__ 0.857

Targets

Also during the March 4 launch, when asked about how many third-generation D-Max units they expect to sell this year, Isuzu Philippines’ Yasuhiko Oyama said that they expect this roll-out in March to increase their share in the pickup truck market from 8 percent in 2020 to 15 percent by the end of 2021. We have to say, with their aggressive pricing and the D-Max’s DNA now putting cross-hairs on key rivals, with Isuzu improving on the previous-generation D-Max as well as on the still-current generation Chevrolet Colorado and (through Mazda) the present-generation Ford Ranger, the leading truckmaker’s goal of nearly doubling their share numbers looks feasible.

Isuzu opens bigger Pasig dealership and truck center with 14 service bays

Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) and their dealer network operator Isuzu Automotive Dealership, Inc. (IADI) have opened a newly enhanced and enlarged storefront and truck center in Pasig City. Isuzu Pasig, the brand’s leading dealership for five years running, now features three lifter-equipped preventive maintenance service (PMS) bays while its attached Isuzu Pasig Truck Center has eight light commercial vehicle (LCV) servicing bays, two more bays for servicing full-fledged trucks, and another dedicated wheel alignment bay. The Isuzu Pasig dealership and its Isuzu Pasig Truck Center are located on the north-bound lane of E. Rodriguez, Jr. Avenue (that’s also known as the C5 beltway) at the corner of Calle Industria .

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH, IADI opens bigger Isuzu Pasig dealership and Truck Center,” 2021:

February 17, was a red-letter day for Isuzu Philippines Corporation and Isuzu Automotive Dealership Inc (IADI), as the bigger and more enhanced Isuzu Pasig dealership and its Isuzu Pasig Truck Center (IPTC) was inaugurated.

In a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony held early that day, top executives of IPC, IADI, and AC Motors were in attendance as Isuzu Pasig and IPTC were formally declared open for business. IPC executives were led by its President Hajime Koso, Executive Vice President Shojiro Sakoda, and Sales Division Head Joseph Bautista. AC Motors was represented by its President Antonio Zara. IADI officials were headed by its Chief Operating Officer Alex Paguio, while Isuzu Pasig was represented by Operations Manager Eric Wambangco.

In his brief remarks, IPC President Hajime Koso expressed delight that Isuzu Pasig has kept in pace with the rapid development of one of Metro Manila’s growth areas.

“With our continuing goal to strengthen and widen the services of Isuzu to our valued customers, IPC is aggressively expanding our dealership network, and I am proud to say that IADI was among those who took the initiative to construct a bigger and more modern facility that is complemented by a truck center.”

Koso added that Isuzu Pasig was the ideal dealership to showcase IPC’s vision of rapid growth and enhanced customer services. “Over the years, Isuzu Pasig was the dealer with the highest network share for five consecutive years, starting in 2016. It also brought home the 2019 Dealer of the Year Award (DOYA) and Excellence in DOYA Sales Operations for two successive years, in 2018 and 2019. We are confident that 2021 and the years to come will have even better results, especially now that it has strategically relocated, with much-improved facilities that are fully compliant with Isuzu Outlet Standards (IOS) and capable of servicing all of our product lines, from the mu-X to our heavy-duty trucks.”

The Isuzu Pasig dealership and its IPTC is located along E. Rodriguez Jr Avenue (formerly C5) at the corner of Calle Industria in Barangay Bagumbayan in Quezon City. The location is strategic, as it is accessible from the highly urbanized cities of Pasig, even Taguig and Mandaluyong.

With a total combined floor area of approximately 5,000 sqm, Isuzu Pasig and IPTC highlights a 5-vehicle display capacity—2 LCVs and 1 CV for Isuzu Pasig and 2 CVs for IPTC. For general repairs, the Isuzu Pasig dealership has 3 Periodic Maintenance Service bays with lifters to accommodate light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and light duty trucks, while IPTC has 8 bays with lifters (for LCVs), 2 bays for trucks, and a wheel alignment bay for LCVs for general repairs, apart from 11 tinsmith/prep bays and 2 paint booths for body repairs.

Chevron named among Asia’s top employers by tandem wins

Chevron, the name behind Caltex lubricants, fuel products and filling stations, has been recognized twice as top-notch employer for 2020. Their recognition as one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” for 2020 by HR Asia last December has been seconded by them receiving the “Best Employer Brand” title at the 15th Employer Branding Awards ceremony last week.

Press Statement by Chevron Holdings, Inc. (CHI), “Chevron recognized among Asia’s best employers with double wins,” 2021:

Chevron Holdings Inc. employees remain at the heart of the company’s success.

Manila, Philippines, February 19, 2021– Chevron Holdings Inc. (CHI) recently hauled two employer of choice awards from prestigious international award-giving bodies in recognition of its exemplary employment practices and workplace culture that prevail even amid unprecedented times.

CHI was named one of the ‘Best Companies to Work For in Asia 2020’ by HR Asia, Asia’s most authoritative publication for human resource (HR) professionals. The publication lauded the company for raising the bar for employee engagement and workplace excellence in the region.

“Receiving this award even in the midst of these difficult, uncertain times is immensely meaningful. It is a validation of our emphasis on employee safety and well-being, and on diversity and inclusion as the centerpieces of our culture. It inspires us to continue the Chevron Way and to be agile in responding to changing times,” CHI General Manager Steven James Callaghan said.

Out of the 150 companies shortlisted for the award, only 21 emerged as winners. The awardees were selected based on the strict judging criteria by a panel of judges and on a survey conducted among employees across Asia using the publication’s proprietary Total Engagement Assessment Model. The winners were announced during the virtual awarding ceremony held on December 31, 2020.

“We are happy to have won the ‘Best Companies to Work For in Asia 2020’ award. This merit is a testament to CHI’s responsible corporate leadership and effective people strategy that endure even amid these trying times. As we all move forward, we will continue to promote a culture where everyone thrives,” Michelle Green, Director for HR Operations at Chevron Corporation, shared.

Covering 300,000 employees across 11 markets in Asia, HR Asia’s Best Companies to Work For in Asia Awards is the largest annual program in the region that recognizes companies that foster excellent workplace culture and invest in employee development.

Aside from the HR Asia award, CHI also copped the highly coveted Global Best Employer Brand Award at the 15th Employer Branding Awards ceremony held on February 16, 2021.

The award is given by the Employer Branding Institute to companies that have utilized HR strategies in managing their employees and advancing their professional growth. The winners were assessed and judged based on the ability to translate vision into action for HR strategy, cultivation of competencies to build a future-ready organization, fostering an inclusive company culture, and ensuring effective employee engagement.

Employer Branding Institute is a virtual global organization comprised of senior HR leaders from over 36 countries, recognized for their contributions to employer branding and talent management practices.

“We are truly honored to be recognized by HR Asia and the Employer Branding Institute as one of the region’s top employers. These awards are a reflection of CHI’s long-established belief in the power of human ingenuity. We dedicate these to our employees who help make our business viable, “Callaghan added.

In the previous years, CHI bagged the Wellness Company of the Year at the Asia CEO Forum in 2018 for its notable health and productivity programs for its employees. In 2019, CHI was also recognized by the same award-giving body as one of the Circle of Excellence awardees of the Kalibrr Top Employer of the Year Award.

Composed of nearly 1,600 employees, CHI offers its employees development opportunities on top of its competitive compensation and benefits. Upholding its operational tenet “Do it safely or not at all,” CHI ensures the health and safety of its employees and communities where it operates through opening a company clinic and providing full-scale training programs for office safety and wellness programs for its employees. It also offers volunteering opportunities and programs promoting diversity and inclusion.

In response to the health crisis, CHI immediately shifted to work-from-home arrangements. Financial assistance and health consultations are also continuously provided to help them pull through the pandemic.

To also propel the country’s recovery, CHI, together with Chevron Philippines Inc., donated funds to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation Inc. last year to provide medical supplies for healthcare workers. Last December, CHI also donated funds to help rehabilitate the communities affected by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

Isuzu finishes 2020 as 21st year in top spot and with more balanced sales mix

Despite upheavals in 2020 that had shrunk the truck market to less than 60 percent of what it was the previous year, Isuzu still made it their 21st year as the top selling truck brand in the country, as well as the year they reached the 300,000 milestone for total number of vehicles sold since they started operations in 1997. And, with 2020 seeing continued growth in medium-duty truck sales from a 9 percent share in total market volume in 2017 to a 34 percent or one-third share in 2020, Isuzu’s numbers have kept pace with the trend, balancing their sales mix in the process. Behind a 38 percent market share in medium-duty trucks, Isuzu’s 1,064 units of medium F-series trucks sold in 2020 also represent a 29 percent share in their own total sales volume that’s significantly increased from 25 percent in 2019 and a mere 5 percent share in 2017.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) “Isuzu PH leads all truck sales categories in 2020; extends Number 1 streak to 21 years,” 2021:

The year 2020, difficult as it may have been across the entire automotive industry, did bring a silver lining for Isuzu Philippines Corporation.

IPC, the exclusive assembler, importer, and distributor of brand-new Isuzu commercial vehicles (CVs) and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in the country, has once again come out on top in the joint sales report of the Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA) and the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI) covering the period from January to December 2020.

The report showed that IPC sold 2,322 units of its N-Series light duty trucks, cornering the top spot in Category III with a 53% market share. It also led Category IV by selling 1,064 units of its F-Series medium-duty trucks, for a 38% share. It was no different in Category V, where the C&E-Series heavy-duty trucks lorded over the competition by selling 320 units for a 35% share. Combined, IPC’s overall commercial vehicle (CV) sales in Categories III, IV and V accounted for 3,707 units, or 45.2% of the market share.

For its 2020 sales performance where it swept all truck sales categories, IPC has now become the Philippines Number 1 truck brand for 21 consecutive years and Number 1 in Light-Duty truck sales for 22 consecutive years.

IPC also showed fast sales recovery on the 2nd half of 2020, which can be attributed to the consistent demand on trucks, brought about by the increase on logistics delivery service and essential goods delivery, especially in areas with travel restrictions.

One result of this, is the outstanding performance of the Isuzu Traviz under the Category II Cab & Chassis segment, selling a total of 2,503 units, capturing 20% share on its first year in the market.

IPC leadership in the truck market is commanded by its strong brand reputation of providing durable and reliable products. On top of this, IPC strives to provide the best ‘customer solution’, fitted to their needs – analyzing their business processes and requirements prior to recommending the best truck.

By being the ‘responsible partner’, IPC does not just supply world-class vehicles and treat our customers as mere clients, we treat them as partners. Their growth is essential to IPC’s growth, hence, we provide total support to our customers nationwide with great products and aftersales support,” said IPC President, Hajime Koso.

On the other hand, Isuzu’s best-selling pick-up, the D-MAX, and the mu-X SUV, has also produced healthy sales numbers, with the D-MAX selling 3,346 units—a 12% increase from 2019 sales, while the mu-X sells a robust 1,681 units.

For 2021, the brand is optimistic with its current line-up for vehicles and upcoming vehicles to be released to the market. “We are confident on our truck line-up, but as the demand changes and increase, IPC evolves and is ready to introduce new products that the Philippine market will love. Hopefully, these products will help boost our economy this years,” Koso added.

This follows a previous transaction last November when HMP started delivering on an order to add 20 Hino 300-series light-duty trucks and 10 Hino 500-series medium-duty haulers to J&T Express’ growing fleet. The latest deal for hundreds of more trucks finds Hino continuing to tap into upswings in online commerce and last-distance delivery that have been spurred by–and could spell our recovery from–the economic impact of the global health crisis.
