Traviz runs for two days and 1,063km on 50-liter tank-load of diesel

Isuzu Philippines got the measure of their popular Traviz light truck with an AAP-observed and certified fuel-economy endurance run that saw the compact hauler getting 21.26 km/l with a two-day 1,063km run on a single 50-liter tank-load of diesel.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “Isuzu TRAVIZ achieves 1,063kms in Isuzu One Full Tank Challenge,” 2 May 2022:

In a recent fuel economy drive, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) records 1,063 kms or a total of 21.26km/l for the Isuzu TRAVIZ in its latest Isuzu One Full Tank Challenge, as observed and certified by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).

From April 18 to 20, IPC conducted its Isuzu One Full Tank Challenge starting at its newest dealership up north, Isuzu La Union. Led by IPC President Hajime Koso and Vice President for Sales Yasuhiko Oyama, the company fielded two of its latest Blue Power trucks – the Isuzu TRAVIZ and the Isuzu NLR85E, to test its excellent fuel economy, innovative diesel engine technology.

“As the number 1 truck brand in the country, we try to provide the best business solutions to our customers, and with the rising fuel prices, we offer to them our most fuel-efficient variants. The Isuzu One Full Tank Challenge is our way to test and prove our trucks’ excellent fuel economy, which is why we would like to as much as possible test the efficiency of our truck under normal driving conditions, carrying weight and passing through cities and highways. The results are truly impressive, it somehow suggests the optimum numbers our customers can get if they practice good driving habits on the road,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.

From Isuzu La Union, the trucks travelled in just one full tank carrying a weight equivalent to 100kgs for the TRAVIZ and 500kgs for the NLR85E. Driving towards north, the participants drove all the way to Pagudpud, then down to Cagayan on its first day. The next day, the trucks travelled farther south before settling the night in Clark, Pampanga. With little fuel left at the start of the third day, the trucks cleared through NLEX then SLEX before making its final stop at Pagbilao, Quezon.

Running on its tried and tested 4JA1 blue power diesel engine, the Isuzu TRAVIZ has a fuel tank capacity of 50-liter, perfect for last mile delivery. During the run, the TRAVIZ was driven and navigated by Mon Dimapilis and Alvin Mañalac, who managed to achieve an impressive 1,063kms at the end of its journey.

Equally impressive is the Isuzu NLR85E, which is one of company’s most popular variants, that took longer on the road covering a total of 1,234kms. Running on a common-rail direct injection 4JJ1-TCC blue power engine with 75-liter fuel tank capacity, the NLR85E truck was driven and navigated by drivers Alex Gonzales, Marjune Espraguira, and Johnsy Reyes.

“This edition of the Isuzu Challenge truly shows Isuzu’s advancement in terms of diesel engine technology, our trucks are well-known to be durable and fuel efficient which is manifested by the impressive results of this Challenge. On top of that, we continue to advocate economic and safety driving so that our customers can reap the over-all benefits of driving their Isuzu trucks,” said IPC Asst. Division Head, Robert Carlos.

Suzuki rolls out larger third-gen Celerio

Introduced to the motoring press yesterday and slated for general public roll out today, Suzuki’s all-new third generation Celerio hatchback sees the small-car big-brand doubling down on what is now their main city-car bet. The new Celerio model is larger than its predecessor in all aspects, even up-sizing its already class-leading cargo space from 254 liters (.254 cu.m.) to 313 liters (.313 cu.m.).

For the first time, the K10B 996cc 3-cylinder engine for both the first- and second-generation models has been updated to K10C specs with dualjet fuel injectors delivering a finer, faster burning feed mist, and a variable valve timing (VVT) valvetrain. The CVT automatic gearbox option of the previous generation has been shelved in favor of their trademark AGS automated manual transmission that’s made versatile with hill stop assist mode. The result is an apparently more efficient powertrain delivering an exceptional 28.25km/l in fuel mileage that Suzuki reports to have measured while being monitored by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).

Priced significantly higher, around P150k more than its predecessor, the Celerio starts out at P708k for its manual transmission base variant and tops out at P754k for its AGS automatic. While slotted under Suzuki’s 1.2L Dzire sub-compact sedan, the Celerio is presently priced between that model’s M/T base and mid-range variants (P609k and P758k, respectively).

Press Statement by Suzuki Philippines, Inc., “Suzuki Philippines Introduces the All-New Celerio: Fill in all the best moments with Suzuki’s subcompact hatchback,” 7 May 2022:

May 7, 2022, Manila, PhilippinesThe Suzuki Celerio has been one of the crowd favorites due to its compact size yet spacious interior. As some would say, it’s small yet incredible. The All-New Suzuki Celerio, just like its predecessor, takes pride in having a subtle design that beams power, vitality, and exterior refinement along with a spacious interior and nimble handling which makes the driving experience worthwhile.

“The All-New Celerio has evolved into a compact car that will make people’s life easier, more convenient, and will allow to express ones personality in an age where diversity is expected’, shared Mr. Norihide Takei, Suzuki Philippines’s General Manager for Automobile. “We are confident that the new Celerio will exceed expectations of customers who seek for both practicality and individuality.”

Dynamic and vibrant exterior

The All-New Celerio showcases three-dimensionally curved surface with a “liquid expression” resembling a water surface, deviating from its previous boxy-type body. Together with the rear combination lamps placed on the shoulder lines, the flared rear fenders emphasize wideness and stability. The car also flaunts 15-inch black alloy wheels, which are an inch larger than the previous model.

Stylish, spacious and convenient interior

The eye-catching exterior is just the start as this hatchback also exudes an invigorating vibe with its instrument panel features that include uniquely designed vent grilles at the center and sides. For a more pleasant driving experience, it is equipped with a 6.2-inch Touchscreen Audio Unit with a clear and responsive anti-Glare Touch screen, Weblink 2.0, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and audio controls on steering wheels which ensure convenience while driving.

Just like its previous generation model, the new Celerio offers a lot of room inside, both for the passengers and luggage. The car provides a 295-liter luggage capacity with a 60:40 split folding rear seats to produce more space for storing bigger items.

Fuel efficient yet powerful performance

Under its hood is a 1.0-litre K10C DUALJET engine which produces 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. The 1.0L DUALJET engine delivers comprehensive advantages in thermal efficiency resulting from a better compression ratio, dual injection system and friction reduction, realising a high-level of balanced dynamic performance and efficiency. To back it up, the All-New Celerio achieved a 28.25 km/L fuel efficiency rating as observed by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).

This fuel-efficient hatchback comes in 5-Speed manual transmission and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) which is an automated manual transmission featuring Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that automatically operated the shift and clutch to bring convenience to manual driving.

Engine auto stop start system (EASS)

Apart from the AGS transmission, one of the most notable and new features of the All -New Celerio is the Engine Auto Stop Start System (EASS). This unique feature shuts off the engine when the vehicle is in idle and meets certain conditions to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption and help limit exhaust emissions and engine noise.

High quality safety features

For the owner’s sense of security, the new Suzuki hatchback has a number of advanced safety features. The body design centers on Suzuki’s TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) concept, resulting in a structure that efficiently absorbs and disperses the energy in the event of collision. It comes with Anti- Lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to help the driver stay in directional control during sharp turns and wheel slippage.

In addition to these safety features, the All-New Celerio also has Dual Airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, rear parking sensors and Hill-Hold Control to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards on steep slopes. All these features are engineered to embrace all types of journeys with no worries.

The All-New Celerio is available in Arctic White, Glistening Gray, Fire Red, and Speedy Blue Metallic that are all set to make a mark in the subcompact hatchback segment.

Chic and packed with incredible features, the All-New Suzuki Celerio’s price starts at Php 708,000 and will be available at Suzuki Philippines’ 73 auto dealerships nationwide. Don’t let your practicality hinder your individuality because you can live big with All-New Suzuki Celerio!

Third-gen HR-V rocks the two-row SUV groove

Honda Cars Philippines launched their third generation HR-V this week and just a year after its global launch in Japan in April 2021. With this newest generation, Honda appears to have gone back to the drawing board, making more sense of that sub-compact crossover SUV form, giving their High-riding Revolutionary Vehicle some gorgeous big car contours backstopped by a genuinely roomy cabin box.

The new HR-V has two engine options, the first time there’s been a choice for HR-V buyers here. The base HR-V S CVT variant has a 1.5L i-VTEC L15ZF delivering peak figures of  118hp @ 6600rpm and 145Nm @ 4600rpm. While the top-spec’d HR-V V CVT variant has the 1.5L VTEC turbo L15B7 punching out 174hp @ 6000rpm and 240Nm @ 1700~4500rpm. And, with their CSR-fuelled push for reducing vehicle accidents, Honda now offers all HR-V variants with factory standard Honda Sensing driver-assistance technology.

In light of those new engine options and the next-generation telematics upgrade, the change in prices from the HR-V’s previous generation is surprisingly restrained.  The base 1.5L S CVT variant lists at P1.250m which is P0.046m lower than its predecessor’s P1.296m, and the top-of-the-line 1.5L turbo V CVT lists at P1.598m, just P0.083m more than the previous top-spec price of P1.515m.

Larger than life

A long muscled hood, the roofline no longer tear-dropped but straighter going back, and lower headroom with wider, squinty glass, all make the new HR-V look like a faithfully scaled down mid-size SUV.  Inside, that external shape translates into sprawling real estate, with leg room in front and back that can’t be made cramped even if you tried.

3rd generation HR-V 1.5L S CVT variant

The SUV’s sleek silhouette does mean less than ideal headroom in the rear (though it’s still good enough for medium-sized adults) but the multi-purpose fold-flat rear-row does assert that space’s lean towards utility after all. It doesn’t lean too much that way, though, not with a novel rear A/C vent now standard on the HR-V

3rd generation HR-V 1.5L Turbo V CVT variant

The HR-V looks larger while now having a 1.5L naturally aspirated base variant engine after the previous generation’s 1.8L R18Z9. Naturally, particularly under the spotlights of the HR-V’s formal launch, its apparent size and downsized engine begged the question, does the new HR-V S variant have enough horses under the hood?

“S” for sweet spot

Well, considering that its 1.5L i-VTEC L15Z paired with their current generation Earth Dreams Technology CVT gearbox is the same powertrain combo under the hood of their 7-seat BR-V crossover SUV, I’d say, yes sir, three bags full, sir.

Think of it: (1) a best in class 1.5 liter SOHC torque factory with a VTEC valvetrain’s two-stage power curve; (2) a Honda-rugged CVT gearbox, its pulley ratio finely balanced with the fluid ratios of a torque converter that delivers relentless uphill pull; (3) this engine-gearbox windfall having been mounted and field-proven on their bestseller 7-seat crossover SUV; and (4) all these now, suddenly, unleashed under the 2-row, 5-seat, and lighter loaded HR-V. Enough power by a good margin, I’d say.

The engine downsizing may have been forced on them because of the discontinuation of the former generation’s 1.8L R18Z9, but just like the 1.3L turning into a wiser-choice 1.2L for the 2nd-gen Brio, the HR-V’s new 1.5L seems to have landed on a sweet spot with  that “S” standing for “serendipity” as well.

Unburdened sporters

But I do get how that turbocharged V variant might goad folks into considering just the top of the ticket and treating the S variant as an entry-level outlier. Matter of fact, even Honda Philippines is estimating that a 55 percent majority of unit sales will be in V variants.

Are we looking at a moon watch / moon swatch scenario, the new HR-V lineup being like having a V-variant Omega turbo sporter with an S-variant Swatch homage economy-model? True, with a chunky P348k price delta between the P1.250m 1.5L S CVT and the P1.598m 1.5L V Turbo CVT, the variants could just as easily be compared to other Honda models rather than each other. And maybe that’s the point after all.

It’s like they gamed some “what-ifs” into their product mix. What if, with the S variant, we make the 1.5 liter, one quarter ton crossover SUV more sporty by losing that third seating row of popular, reliable but relatively staid and hefty 7-seaters such as the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Rush, Suzuki XL7, and even the bestselling Honda BR-V? That would put the S variant’s P1.250m sticker price in a distinctly premium light, wouldn’t it?

Other hand, about the V variant, what if we took the Civic’s L15B7 1.5L turbocharged VTEC with its mainstay Earth Dreams CVT gearbox and put these into, hey look, how about the new HR-V? From a compact sport sedan that weighs in closer to a ton and a half, to a ton and a quarter sub-compact crossover SUV, the multiverse potential of transplanting that 174hp / 220Nm turbo must’ve been irresistible. Suddenly that extra P0.100m for a P1.598m HR-V V-variant versus the Civic V Turbo’s P1.498m sticker price isn’t off-putting at all. Shell out an extra P100k for the Civic’s high-riding pocket-rocket Loki brother anyone? That 55 percent projected sales share sounds just right.

Valeo marketer BSB Junrose advices routine and prompt windshield wiper replacement

Major automotive aftermarket vendor BSB Junrose, marketer of Euro-sourced Valeo brand windshield wipers, offers advise and pointers on the upkeep and routine replacement of these often overlooked (pun intended) auto-parts.

Press Statement by BSB Junrose, “When Do You Need to Change Your Car Windshield Wipers? Ensure your overall driving safety by making sure your car wipers are always in the best condition.” 11 March 2022:

(Manila, Philippines) – Your car’s windshield wipers are very important as they serve as your first line of defense when driving under torrential rains. The wipers also instantly get rid of small debris that block your view when driving under any weather condition. Because road accidents usually happen due to poor driving visibility, windshield wipers are considered most vital for safe driving, along with lights.

However, proper maintenance of windshield wipers is often overlooked. Fortunately, wiper blades can easily be replaced by any DIY motorist and doing so may not be costly at all. Still, every car owner should observe ways to properly take care of wiper blades.

Taking care of wiper blades

When having your car washed, don’t overlook cleaning the windshield wiper blades as dirt stuck on those could cause trouble when you use the wipers. You may use soft cloth to wipe clean the wiper blades to avoid any possible problem.

Inspect your windshield wipers and their blades as frequently as you possibly can. Look out for several potential issues when doing so. Those include metal corrosion, a broken frame, or any visible damage appearing in the rubber part. When any or all of these are observed, get ready to replace the blades.

When is the time to replace?

In general, it is advisable to replace your car’s wiper blades yearly or when there is a noticeable difference in their performance. If you often take out-of-town vacation or business trips (whatever the season), it is a must to include inspecting your windshield wipers to make sure those remain in ideal condition for the long drive. Don’t hesitate to make a replacement when you see smears, skips, or streaks when you use your windshield wipers and when those affect your driving visibility. Unlikely noise created by the wipers can also indicate a need for replacement.

Another advisable time is before the onset of the rainy season, which usually starts by the end of May each year. This is to make sure the windshield wipers are always in reliable and best condition especially during stormy or rainy days—a necessity for your overall driving safety.

Is your car often exposed to harsh sunlight? Do you park your vehicle in an open-space parking lot all day, every day? Your car’s wiper blades could easily dry out, which may affect their effectiveness and flexibility. This is also the reason why in countries like the Philippines, experts advise that wiper blades be replaced more frequently.

If you properly maintain your car windshield wipers and you are still dissatisfied with their performance, you could consider other brands that offer superior wiper performance.

Trust only the best

One of the best brands to consider in the market is Valeo, a European tech and automotive parts company. It offers automotive wiper systems that include a complete range of windshield wipers. Prestone brand now on top-grade motor oils and pro-grade car cleaning wipes

In the face of health safety protocols being lowered to alert one status, the Ukraine crisis, and, naturally, the imminent arrival of what must again be a blistering summer, Prestone Philippines has sent over a car care package that serves as silent reminder to get our vehicles ready.

Prestone, a household name to veteran motorists, the go-to “Frigidaire” of all-important hydraulic brake fluid for cars as well as heavy haulers, has more recently become the brand that’s also front and center for Asian-tough radiator coolant at your typical auto-supply store. And now their offerings include other motoring supplies of the usual sort as well as those for new normal conditions.

The climate is hotting up, motorists are returning to punishing road congestion, and the disruption of international supply lines is hiking up fuel prices. All these, happening while viral threats remain significant enough to warrant masks and antiseptic misting in public. In the face of such realities, as demonstrated with the care package they sent over, Prestone now puts their trusted name on diverse essentials for vehicle upkeep and hygiene such as:

Prestone professional-grade disinfecting car wipes with Clorox-branded yet bleach-free cleaning agents asserted to eliminate 99 percent of bacteria and viruses including COVID-19, and available in 30- or 15-wipe canisters or sachets (made in the U.S.A.),

Prestone D-Tech 500 fully synthetic SAE 15W-40 diesel-engine motor-oil that’s suitable for late-model low-emission heavy-duty engines with particulate filters as well as for older units (made in Singapore),

Prestone power-steering fluid with “stop-leak” conditioner that slows down seal aging in the hydraulic-steering system (made in the U.S.A), and Prestone automatic-transmission (AT) fluid also with “stop-leak” agents to condition dry or cracked seals in AT hydraulic torque converters (made in the U.S.A.),

Prestone ready-to-use pre-diluted radiator antifreeze and coolant fluid recommended for Asian vehicles that comes with their 10-year 300,000 mile guarantee (made in the U.S.A).

Honda has always strongly advocated road safety and HCPI is among the first car brands in the Philippines to offer a suite of driver-assist safety features which we now know as Honda SENSING. This is in line with Honda’s mission to provide safe and reliable vehicles to realize zero traffic collision fatalities, in which not only automobile occupants, but everyone, including pedestrians and other road users, may share the road safely and with peace of mind.

The recent launch of the 11th generation All-New Civic highlights the latest version of the Honda SENSING given the usage of a monocular camerathat has better recognition and can measure the distance target of the vehicle or obstacles ahead. Mitsubishi Motors gives P1M to Philippine Red Cross fund for continued Typhoon Odette recovery

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, the country’s longest running automotive manufacturing operation, has contributed P1M to the Philippine Red Cross’ fund for continued aid to communities hit hard by Typhoon Odette.  Already several months after being pummeled by the most destructive typhoon of 2021, entire towns in Visayas, Mindanao and Luzon’s Palawan still haven’t recovered from the effects of Odette.

Press Statement by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., “Mitsubishi Motors makes 1M pesos contribution to the Philippine Red Cross fund for continuous support to Typhoon Odette victims,” 16 February 2022:

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) heeds to the call of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for continuous aid for Typhoon Odette-hit communities by making a one million pesos contribution. Almost two months following what was recorded as the most destructive storm in 2021, locals across Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan still require support.

The disaster-specific fund founded by PRC back in December was intended not only to deliver immediate relief but also aid long-term rehabilitation. Those residing in the aforementioned areas are still making ends meet on top of the challenges of the ongoing pandemic. The brand’s donation will be utilized to prepare relief packages that will be distributed to households particularly in Surigao Del Norte as they move out of temporary shelters into transitional housing that enable more stability in terms of livelihood and daily living.

“MMPC would like to thank the Philippine Red Cross for giving us the opportunity to help families that were affected by Typhoon Odette. We understand the magnitude of devastation that they absorbed and Mitsubishi Motors aims to assist with their recovery,” said by MMPC President and CEO, Mr. Takeshi Hara during the official virtual turnover that was held last February 4, Friday. “Our commitment to the Philippines goes beyond providing quality cars and vehicle service as it extends to a vision of being a medium in making the life of every Filipino better”.

PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard Gordon, was also in attendance during the online ceremony and said, “I would like to thank MMPC and to Mr. Takeshi Hara for choosing Philippine Red Cross as your partner of choice in delivering much needed relief for Typhoon Odette-hit communities. Through your generous donation, PRC will be able to strengthen and hasten relief efforts to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people. May we continue to be partners in helping the most vulnerable as we help them through this crisis”.

He also highlighted some achievements throughout the course of their operations including the distribution of Hot Meals, food and non-food items, clean and potable water, shelter repair kits, psychosocial support, clearing operations, sleeping kits, multipurpose cash grants, facemasks, and medicines.
