New company offers third party verification of used car condition

Premium Warranty Services Philippines, Inc. now offers Japanese-developed processes for used vehicle inspection and certification that will allow dealers to sell pre-owned cars with warranties. They observe this service to be particularly relevant now that prevailing conditions compel commuters to acquire second-hand vehicles to not be dependent on public transport.

Press Statement by Premium Warranty Services Philippines, Inc. (PWSPI), “Search For Reliable And High-Quality Second-Hand Cars Made Easier With Premium Warranty Services,” 02 November 2021

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 2 November , 2021–Premium Warranty Services Philippines, Inc. (PWSPI) aims to transform the country’s pre-owned car market. It noted that buying a used car in the Philippines is fraught with many challenges, especially for the uninitiated. Usually, the purchase is on an “as-is-where-is” basis and buyers are left to fend for themselves after that.

Premium Group Co., Ltd., Japan’s leading automobile warranty provider boasts 14 years of expertise in used vehicles industry

“Many Filipinos are in the market for used cars as an alternative to public transport or as an additional option for personal mobility,” Vince Socco, Chairman of PWSPI and GT Capital Auto & Mobility (GT CAM), said. “By providing top-quality inspection and warranty services, PWSPI is able to bring a new level of transparency to the second-hand car market and help provide buyers with added peace of mind in both the buying and ownership experience,” he added.

PWSPI sees a clear opportunity to provide sellers and buyers with a convenient solution to trade in used cars. With PWSPI’s inspection services,  buying used cars is worry-free and reassuring as warranty coverage may be availed through used car dealers.

Finding a quality PWSPI-inspected vehicle

Inspection officer verifies the health of a vehicle based on its engine, body and frame, undercarriage, interior and exterior components.

To elevate the buy-and-sell experience of used cars, PWSPI is partnering with financial institutions and second-hand car dealers that supply pre-owned cars to the market and online portals. PWSPI inspects their inventory of vehicles to provide buyers with transparency on the cars they are considering to acquire.Once PWSPI completes its 188-point vehicle inspection, it issues a certification on the car’s condition. Vehicles listed online will carry an “Inspected” badge with a link that’ll take an interested buyer directly to a copy of the inspection certificate. In the dealer showrooms, vehicle surveyors will affix a sticker on the windshield attesting to the inspection by PWSPI. A copy of the inspection certificate is available upon request.

Currently, PWSPI is ironing plans with Carousell, to have PWSPI inspect and certify all used car that are listed on their online platform.

“We want to make PWSPI inspection and warranty services easy to find and avail. Partnering with used car dealers and online autoportals in offering these services is the natural place to start,” Socco says. “They know their customers and the market best and our role is to help them provide better value and a better purchasing experience,” Socco added.

In addition to the inspection certification, PWSPI will also provide photos of the vehicle, highlighting the significant findings on the condition of the car.

Japanese Quality Inspection Services

Equipped with the proper tools for accurate inspection results.

PWSPI fields its team of qualified vehicle surveyors to used car dealers to conduct inspection of vehicles. Using an array of tools and equipment, the evaluators apply 360o inspection of the exterior, interior, undercarriage, engine and on-board devices (OBD).

Aside from looking for dents and scratches, paint thickness is also measured to detect any potential repainting resulting from an accident. The cross-member, pillars and welding spots are checked for integrity. The car’s OBD is electronically scanned for fault codes to uncover hidden issues. Suspension is also checked to determine if shock absorbers, ball joints and other related parts are in good condition.

Worry-free used car ownership

The peace of mind provided by PWSPI goes beyond its certification of the vehicle condition. Buyers of pre-owned cars can also elevate their ownership experience by purchasing a vehicle warranty from the used car dealer, backed by the experience and technical expertise of Premium Warranty Services.

Pre-owned car dealers are able to offer warranties on vehicles aged 10 years below or with mileage of 150,000 kms or less.  One-year or two-year warranties are available – a benefit that used to be enjoyed only by brand new vehicle buyers. Buyers of second hand cars can opt from either an Engine & Transmission Warranty or a Comprehensive Warranty that covers over 200 parts, depending on their budget or personal preference. A basic one-year Engine & Transmission coverage on a three-year-old used car starts at Php 5,100.00 which is a very reasonable investment in exchange for the added security it offers. A full two-year Comprehensive Warranty on a three-year old vehicle, on the other hand, is available for Php 13,300.00.

Warranties are offered for used cars that are certified as eligible by PWSPI Vehicle Surveyors. It is available for major Japanese, American, and Korean car brands except for grey market parallel imports, modified or commercial vehicles. In the event of a warrantable part failure, a claim can be conveniently filed through PWSPI. PWSPI will evaluate the claim and, if approved, will refer the owner to one of its accredited repair shops. An owner can make claims up to a maximum accumulated repair cost between Php 250,000.00 and Php500,000.00 over the length of the warranty period, depending on the type of warranty.

The Philippines is the third foray of Premium Warranty into the Asian market after Thailand and Indonesia. It sees that motorization in the country will continue to drive the growth of the used car markets. “The second hand car market – even during the pandemic – has been quite resilient. We believe that the Filipino car buyer – new or pre-owned – demands a better experience that is consistent with more developed markets,” Socco also noted.

Isuzu Philippines donates third utility vehicle to Philippine Red Cross

Continuing what has become an Isuzu tradition, the top truckmaker has donated another off-roading 4×4 D-Max pickup to the Philippine Red Cross to provide more all-terrain mobility to volunteer responders. This third vehicle donation to the Philippine Red Cross in recent months is preceded by the turnover of the first 4×4 D-Max pickup in January 2020 and of a food truck built on Isuzu’s NKR-71 light-duty chassis earlier this year.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “Isuzu Philippines gives back to the community with Isuzu D-Max donation to Philippine Red Cross,” 27 October 2021:

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) continues to take active interest in the welfare of its community with another donation of Isuzu D-Max to the country’s leading humanitarian organization, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Laguna Chapter.  The official turnover was led by IPC Assistant Vice President for Administration, David Yandoc and Sales Division Head, Joseph Bautista on October 27 in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.  Present to accept the donation were Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas, PRC Secretary General, Elizabeth S. Zaballa, and PRC Chapter Administrator Laguna Chapter, Frank Gray M. Sorromero.

IPC recognizes the increased need of Red Cross to respond in this challenging time, as the pandemic persist and continue to affect vulnerable families.  As such, banking on the versatility and reliability of its pickup, IPC donates 1 Isuzu D-Max.  This vehicle will ensure that Red Cross will be where they need to be, no matter how difficult the road condition is. Be it an off-road or flooded area.

This is Isuzu’s third vehicle donation to PRC.  In January 2020, Isuzu supported PRC’s rescue and relief operations for those affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano by donating 1 Isuzu D-Max 4×4.  The following year, amid COVID-19 pandemic, Isuzu partnered again with PRC by donating one Isuzu NKR 71 food truck.  Equipped with a complete mini kitchen, the food truck helps PRC Laguna Chapter actively distribute hot meals into areas affected by quarantines and restrictions.

In the acceptance message, Chairman of Board of Directors-PRC Laguna Chapter, Director Jaime B. Ching, recognized IPC for its trust and support to Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter. He acknowledged IPC as their partner in making their work more efficient and effective.  A plaque of appreciation was also awarded to IPC for its contribution and unselfish support to the endeavors of PRC-Laguna Chapter.

Centro Nippon-Fruehauf’s refrigerator van bodies now on Hino 300 trucks

Roll out of Nippon-Freuhauf refrigerator van body on a Hino 300-series light-duty truck chassis brings a fully Japan-sourced cold-chain transporter to the Philippine market.

Press Statement by Centro Nippon Fruehauf Cooltech, Inc. (CFCI), “Finally an All Japanese Ref Van is introduced in the Philippines: Japanese auto and manufacturing leaders forge partnership to provide cold chain transport solution,” 19 October 2021:

With a projected 10% growth seen in the domestic cold chain industry, three Japanese auto and manufacturing leaders pooled their engineering expertise together to come up with the Hino 300 ref van. This is aimed at providing the transport solution from the first and up to the last mile delivery segments of the cold chain industry. On a Japanese Hino 300 series light truck will be mounted either a 10 or 11-footer Japanese Cooltech ref van body from Centro Nippon Fruehauf (CFCI). Cooling power will be provided by a Japanese Denso DS2 cooling system, whether the need is for a chilled or frozen cargo condition.

In a recent Cold Chain Logistics Workshop between the Philippines and Japan, Cold Chain Association of the Philippines President Anthony Dizon showed that the cold chain industry is projected to grow to 550,000 pallet positions this year. “And we see the need nationwide for ref vans to transport goods from the farm or piers, to the cold storage facilities, then to the processing plants, then back to the cold storage facilities for its last-mile delivery to the retail outlets”.

This makes Mr. Hiroki Senoo, Vice President for Business Planning Division of Hino Motors Philippines (HMP) excited about this latest product offering resulting from the partnership. “With its outstanding features, we expect the Hino 300 ref van to be a game changer in the cold chain industry. It will fill the need for a reliable ref van and its durability and uncompromising quality will be backed by Hino’s one-stop solution where servicing of the ref system and body can also be done at any Hino dealership nationwide. That will make after sales service very convenient”.

HMP Vice President for Sales Division Oliver dela Cruz adds that the Hino 300 ref van is expected to change the country’s trucking and logistics landscape. “With the tough and tested Hino 300 light truck as platform in combination with a Denso cooling unit and Cooltech ref van body, it is designed to take on the rough and challenging terrains in the countryside. Customers can thus look forward to what is probably the best in Japanese technology in a ref van”.

For its cooling power, Denso has its highly reliable DS2 ref system which Mr. Masahiko Tanaka, Unit Head of Denso’s Sales Unit says has been proven to perform efficiently at lower operating cost. “It can handle the cargoes at the temperature desired by the customer whether in chilled or frozen condition. On top of that, it is environmentally friendly based on the materials and refrigerant used. We have engineered it to work well with the Hino 300 light truck and the Cooltech ref van body and deliver outstanding performance expected of an all-Japan product”.

The Cooltech ref van body uses extruded polystyrene which is a less water-absorptive insulating material. CFCI Production Manager Edd Nieva explains that the production of the insulated sandwich panels and subsequent assembly of ref vans utilizes Japanese technology, process and stringent quality control standards. “The Cooltech ref van body is engineered to fuse perfectly well with the Japanese Hino 300 light truck and the Japanese Denso ref system to come up with a reliable all-Japan ref van. It is the perfect fusion among a tough, durable truck muscle, a cost- efficient cooling unit and a high-quality ref van body”.

Isuzu Philippines rolls out first automated manual transmission on light-duty commercial truck

the NLR85E Smoother with its 4,490k gross vehicle weight, Isuzu seems to hit the sweet spot for addressing what they observe to be a growing logistics industry that’s held back by a dwindling cadre of expert drivers. The N-series Smoother brings turnkey expert driving to the mix while offering game-changing ease-of-use in typical city traffic and a weight cap plus a 10ft rear deck that give it freedom to roll on critical road arteries (like on EDSA with its reinstated ban on 4,500kg trucks).

Quezon City, Philippines | 15 October 2021–Isuzu Philippines has rolled out their latest N-Series light-duty truck, the NLR85E Smoother variant featuring an automated manual transmission (AMT) that is new here but has already been in mainstream use in Japan and other major markets.

Not a conventional automatic transmission (AT) either, Isuzu’s new Smoother uses an enhancement of the manual gearbox, an automated variation on their proven 6-speed MYY6S manual transmission (MT) where: (1) the single 325mm dry clutch plate has been replaced with same-diameter multiple wet clutches, (2) a fluid coupling with lock-up clutch replaces hard-contact with the engine’s flywheel (3) the manual foot-pedal mechanism has been removed and clutch operation has been delegated to solenoids and ECU operation, and (4) its automated operation uses algorithms that reflect truck driving best practices.

Cut out illustration of defining components of Isuzu’s automated manual transmission

On the new NLR85E Smoother with the MYY6S(AMT) gearbox, you get automated use of an otherwise manual transmission (gear selector stick but no clutch pedal) and this with a veteran driver’s knowledge and muscle memory right off the bat.  It features standard fuel-saving roll-outs in second gear, with optional override to first gear for laden or uphill starts, and an eco-mode toggle that gets you short-shifting (up-shifting early and at moderate revs) for minimized wear and maximized economy.

With the NLR85E Smoother and its 4,490kg gross vehicle weight, Isuzu squarely hits the needs of a growing logistics industry that’s held back by a dwindling cadre of expert drivers. The N-series Smoother brings turnkey driving expertise to the struggle, this while offering easy ‘matic operation in punishing city traffic, and a weight cap plus compact 10ft rear deck that give it freedom to roll on critical road arteries (like on EDSA with its reinstated ban on 4,500kg trucks).

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) president Hajime Koso confirms that this is the first time they have introduced any form of automatic or automated transmission on their light duty trucks, but he emphasizes that the Smoother‘s AMT engineering has been featured on their trucks in the Japanese market for years now.

IPC president Hajime Koso opens the Isuzu Smoother launch press-con

IPC marketing head Joseph Bautista added that although the new MYY6S(AMT) gearbox is itself imported as a completely built up component, the NLR85E Smoother that it goes into remains to be assembled here like its MT counterpart.

IPC product planning head Robert Carlos said that the NLR85E Smoother could be the first of many new AMT variants and that they are studying the use of automated manual gearboxes in their other light- as well as medium- and heavy-duty models.

Starting price for the base cab and chassis NLR85E Smoother is PhP1,600,000–PhP95,000 higher than for its versatile but more conventional manual gearbox variant.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “Isuzu N-series Smoother: drives like AT, fuel efficient like MT–the country’s number 1 truck brand introduces new innovative Automated Manual Transmission technology,” 15 October 2021:

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC)’s mission to be every customer’s partner for success continues with the introduction of its latest model, Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER.   This is the company’s first light duty truck installed with the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology, an innovative intelligent gearshift system.

Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER operates without the clutch pedal and achieves automatic shift change by computer control.  This means the driver gets the performance of an MT on a 2-pedal operation.  Or basically, the Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER provides the combined advantages of an AT’s easy driving operation and MT’s fuel efficiency.

“Being the number 1 truck brand in the country, Isuzu’s success comes from working closely with our customers, assessing their every need, and coming up with the best business solutions in every step of the way,” said IPC President Hajime Koso. “In the Philippines, trucks are maximized and utilized almost at 24/7 operations. And with the increasing demand for delivery, especially in logistics, truckers deal not just with the increase in their operation expenses, particularly fuel and maintenance, but also the need for more professional drivers which has become quite a problem. So, we thought, why not make our next truck address all these challenges and more,” Koso added.

The Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER promises to deliver SMOOTHER business operation and SMOOTHER driving experience with these core benefits:

  1. Easy To Drive  – Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER is not complicated to drive.  Its gearbox is designed like that of an AT and has 2 pedals only.   Newbie drivers and even female drivers can operate this truck with ease.  This also means less fatigue for drivers during long distance driving or when in traffic congested areas.
  1. Economical  – With the advance technology of AMT, Isuzu N-Series SMOOTHER automatically selects and shifts to the appropriate gear position.  This results to good fuel efficiency, saving you from high fuel expenses. Press Statement by Toyota Motor Philippines, “Own the power to lead with the Philippines’ best-selling SUV: Those with the power to lead choose the Philippines’ best-selling SUV,” 4 October 2021:

Manila | October 04, 2021–Toyota Motor Philippines, the country’s top automotive company and a firm believer in the value of “kaizen” (Japanese term that means constant improvement), aims to always deliver the highest level of quality across its offerings. From this same mindset originates the Toyota Fortuner – the vehicle of choice for Filipinos with the power to lead.

Embodying top-notch qualities and delivering a next-level driving experience, the Toyota Fortuner has earned kingship within its category. The Fortuner never missed the list of the country’s top selling 7-seater SUVs every year. It has been hailed as the best-selling SUV in the Philippines, having sold more than 230,000 units since 2005.

Peak performance fit for a segment king

A perfect match for brave business owners and visionary young professionals paving their way to a better future, each Fortuner safely guides its owners and passengers as they lead their everyday lives. Arch. Wilbye Manlutac, can attest to the reliability and trustworthiness of his SUV.

“My family first owned a 2007 model of the Fortuner before switching to the 2018 model. The older model’s reliability and efficiency served as our main reason for getting the newer version.” Arch. Wilbye shared. “Having experienced two models of the Fortuner, I can say that Toyota does an amazing job designing cars that deliver on both function and form. Luxury and comfort are definitely something that the Fortuner offers at the perfect balance.”

A leader knows how to perform — wherever life’s roads may go. Being the king in its class and having been present on Philippine roads for over 15 years, the Fortuner has proven its capability to adapt to new challenges and an ever-changing terrain.

The power to surmount every obstacle is in a leader’s DNA, as portrayed by the Fortuner’s dynamic and fuel-efficient engine. The 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC Variable Nozzle Turbo with air-cooled Intercooler engine under a Fortuner’s hood is more than capable of bringing its owner through great distance and to great heights.

Beyond this, the Fortuner also promises safety — a universal and fundamental quality among all Toyota vehicles. The Fortuner commits to deliver ease of use and peace of mind with its combination of advanced passive and active safety features. Certain variants also have the Toyota Safety Sense, which equips the Fortuner with Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Other safety additions available for select variants of the Fortuner are the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Premier power and perks

Being ahead of the pack entails knowing how to work hard but also when to play hard. Flexibility spells the difference for those that excel. Being well-equipped for various driving situations, the Fortuner is a worthy companion, whether on new ventures or on daily journeys– as attested to by Crysler David, a Toyota Fortuner owner since 2019.

“My fondest memories with Lisha (my Fortuner’s name) are the long drives I’ve taken with it. Driving Lisha to exciting places like La Union and Pangasinan with my friends is always an adventure,” Crysler said.

Lisha, Crysler’s Fortuner, has been with him since 2019 and has accompanied him through various travels

The Fortuner possesses components that are convenient for road trips and out-of-towns such as a spacious trunk, a stable and adventurous stance and a powerful engine. Select variants of the vehicle also introduce new functional power features such as the Kick Sensor, which enables the boot to open automatically with a simple foot movement to make loading equipment and baggage easier. These features make the Fortuner the vehicle of choice for those who love to enjoy life’s most thrilling moments

A leader on all fronts

True frontrunners set the tone for greatness from the very first impression. The Toyota Fortuner does the same effectively with its striking exterior and signature commanding appearance which emanate confidence and elegance for its owner.

The Fortuner’s premium features go beyond its sleek colorways, machine cut alloy wheels, exclusive bumper designs, and top-quality headlights and turn signals. The vehicle’s interior also offers immersive styling and progressive technology. The inside of the Toyota Fortuner – with variants that boast accented leather seats, interior illumination system and 9-speaker JBL sound system paired with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility feature — is designed to make every passenger at home, wherever the destination may be.

From the outside in, the Toyota Fortuner aims to inspire luxury with its dynamic exterior and premium interior. With all these and more, the Fortuner proves to be a staunch companion — whether when leading in life’s literal and figurative highroads or when leading every new adventure.
