Isuzu launches new top-spec D-Max with off-road test drives for the public in Cebu and Davao

After launching the D-Max top-spec LS-A in Makati City last August 29, Isuzu now introduces the new variant with off-road test drive and mall display events for the Visayas and Mindanao regions.  The launch last weekend at the SM Seaside City in Cebu is now followed by the event at SM Lanang in Davao City starting today, Friday, September 20, and running until Sunday, September 22.

Isuzu Philippines Corp. president Hajime Koso says, “the D-MAX LS-A represents nearly a century of Isuzu’s experience and innovation in the design, engineering, and workmanship of diesel-powered utility vehicles.” He adds that, “the D-MAX LS-A is infused, as well, with features that address the demands of a market that value both hard work and play, business with leisure.”

Outgoing D-Max top-spec 3.0L LS, also available for test drive at Isuzu’s launch events in Cebu and Davao

The D-Max LS-A replaces the 3.0 LS as the model’s top-spec variant, eventually to become the upper range model above their 1.9L RZ4E LS line-up.  The LS-A still features the 3.0 liter 4JJ1-TCX diesel mill with variable geometry turbocharger producing 173hp (177ps) of peak power and 380Nm of max torque, with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, and initially available with a 4×4 drivetrain (the 4×2 option will be made available later this year).

The distinguishing touches of the new LS-A start in front with dark-grey furnishings replacing and expanding on the D-Max’s grille chrome, merging this downwards with a two-tone bumper that brandishes bushing stylings on the corners and a silver skid plate at bottom center.  Along the side, the LS-A now features power folding side mirrors in toughened dark grey polymer finish plus logo’d cargo extenders running along the top of the rear deck walls, also in dark grey.  There are fender shields joined visually front to back by faceted rocker panels, all in dark grey, and underscored by a step board in black.  The LS-A’s 255/60 R18 low-walled Toyo tires are mounted on matching two-tone alloy wheels that are exclusive to the new variant.

At introductory prices that a source tells us are around P200K under what will become its regular price points, the new D-Max 3.0L LS-A 4×4 is now on offer at P1.630M for the MT variant and at P1.700M for the AT. These are the former prices of the 3.0L LS 4×4 MT and AT variants, remaining stocks of which are now being offered with significant discounts at P1.320M and P1.390, respectively.

The launch of the mall display at SM Seaside City, Cebu

Both the new LS-A and the outgoing LS models have been made available to the public for the off-road test drives.  Visitors are paired up with instructor drivers to guide them through specially built dirt tracks that feature steep uphill climbs and downhill descents, side sloping patches to test grip and stability, mud-pools to prove 4×4 traction, an array of deep “elephant” potholes to push the suspension’s articulation to its limits, and that exciting climb up and descent from a tall “table-top” that’s meant to test torque, approach and departure angles, and the driver’s adrenaline threshold.

The regional launches were started last weekend in Cebu in the Central Visayas where the off-road test drives have particular relevance.  Dealer group Isuzu Cebu, Inc.’s general manager Steve Gingco says that in a market where a 200 percent increase from the same period last year now sees pick-up trucks surpassing SUVs in popularity, and compared to the rest of the country where most pick-up sales are for 4×2 variants, Cebu is the one place where most carmakers record an even split between these and 4×4 off-roading trucks.

New LS-A top-spec regular-edition Isuzu D-Max variant is launched

Isuzu’s iconic D-Max pickup now has the LS-A, a new top-spec variant slotted above their premium LS configuration.

Having started off the sporty, high-riding and mid-sized pickup segment in 2003, and now six years and four engine match ups into its second generation model, the D-Max now puts a touched-up greyed-out grille, 18 inch alloy rims, charcoal grey cargo bay extenders and roof rails on its top of the line 3.0 liter LS-A variant with its 4×2 or 4×4 and MT or AT options.

The LS-A 4×4 MT in verdant red and smart white are on display at the Glorietta Activity Center in makatai City from August 29 t0 31.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), “Isuzu rolls out premium pick-up variant, the new D-MAX LS-A,” 2019:

Sixteen years after it introduced what would become one of its most iconic diesel workhorses, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) launches the most stylish modern iteration of the D-MAX pick-up, the LS-A.

To be publicly displayed at the New Glorietta Activity Center, Makati from August 29 to August 31, the D-MAX LS-A represents nearly a century of Isuzu’s experience and innovation in the design, engineering, and workmanship of diesel-powered utility vehicles. The D-MAX LS-A is infused, as well, with features that address the demands of a market that value both hard work and play, business with leisure.

At the heart of the D-MAX LS-A is the powerful and fuel-efficient 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-liter 4-cylinder In-line Blue Power Diesel engine with VGS turbo intercooler that generates 177 PS @ maximum power and 380 Nm @ maximum torque. Initially available in 4×4 variant, IPC did mention that it will also be offered in 4×2 variants in the coming months, both variants will have an option for either 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift or the 6-speed manual transmission with gear shift indicator.

The powerplant and drivetrain, however, are just the starting points for what makes the new D-MAX LS-A perfectly suited for the evolving modern demands of the market. Inside and out, the D-MAX LS-A comes in a complete package of features that cater to the modern Filipino lifestyle — the lifestyle that maximizes the best qualities of the urban professional and the weekend adventurer

Boasting modern exterior styling, the D-MAX LS-A has a very dark gray front grille and bumper, coupled with side step board and rocker panel, cargo extender and roof rails.

For occupant comfort and convenience, the D-MAX LS-A is equipped with the auto-climate control air conditioning system, passive entry/push start-stop system, 12V accessory socket, three USB charging ports, 15 storage compartments and 10 cup holders.

IPC President Hajime Koso describes the reason for being of the D-MAX LS-A “Introduced in 2003, the Isuzu D-MAX pick-up has sold more than 46,000 units so far and continues to be one of the country’s most popular pick-up models for its durability, fuel efficiency, and overall value for money. The new Isuzu D-MAX LS-A joins the ranks of premium pick-ups with its stylish yet functional design and competitive pricing without compromising the D-MAX’s core value of being ‘Tough Enough for Anything’.

In his special message at the launch, Isuzu Motors Limited Executive Officer Hirokazu Okubo traces Isuzu’s experience with the pickup design to nearly a century back. “The first vehicle Isuzu produced in the market in 1922 was a pick-up truck, taking note of our expertise on the product and most especially on diesel engine technology.”

He added, “Worldwide, the Isuzu D-MAX is trusted in countries like Thailand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, certainly because of its design and functionality that have gone through rigorous testing and development. The new Isuzu D-MAX LS-A variant will be a great addition to the very competitive local pick-up truck market.”

The new D-MAX LS-A comes in the following colors: Cosmic Black, Sapphire Blue, Titanium Silver, Red Spinel, Splash White, Silky Peral White. With all the added features on the D-MAX LS-A, IPC announced that there will be a more competitive pricing for this variant.

Veteran Isuzu motorists push limits of next-gen RZ4E engine on 2019 fuel eco challenge

Isuzu Philippines kicked off their 2019 fuel economy challenge competition this month, continuing contests they held last year with Isuzu vehicle owners among their dealers, this time with fans from Isuzu vehicle clubs.

The 12 members of the mu-X OP car club that competed on the first leg of the 2019 Isuzu Fuel Eco Challenge last August 3

Like in 2018, this year’s competitors from numerous car clubs, along with members of the motoring press, would drive a single lap around a 4.2km loop starting and ending at the main entrance of the Isuzu factory in Laguna Technopark. With different groups on several weekends, car club and media drivers compete separately on the 4×2 and 6AT variants of either the D-Max pickup or the mu-X SUV, both with the new 1.9 liter RZ4E turbodiesel efficiency engine.

Veterans hands-on on a new engine

Continuing the contest series with car club members is a shrewd move by the country’s leading truck brand, holding contests that put the 1.9 liter RZ4E, their newest and smallest turbodiesel, front and center among people with first-hand knowledge of the sporty D-Max and mu-X utility vehicles that mount larger engines in past and present variants.

The RZ4E engine featured on Isuzu fuel eco challenges since last year was introduced also in 2018 as Isuzu’s first turbodiesel that departs from the 4J engine series from which they’ve drawn the 3.0 liter 4JJ1 as well as 2.5 liter 4JK1 and 4JA1 engine models for the D-Max and mu-X along with their discontinued Alterra and Crosswind line-ups.

And, while the RZ4E’s 147hp peak power and 350Nm of max torque put it in good standing against these 4J engines, its diminutive 1.9 liter displacement could be cause for skepticism, especially when powering Isuzu’s mid-sized D-max pick-up and mu-X SUV, and particularly among current owners who drive former and current variants with larger 2.5 and 3.0 liter engines.

City mileage simulation

Appropriately, since the 4×2 6AT RZ4E D-Max and mu-X variants are ideal for daily commutes in heavy traffic, Isuzu’s fuel eco challenge simulates city driving more than it does highway cruising. The contest runs happen on wide concrete roads that could be busy with Laguna Technopark’s regular car and truck traffic, and on which a 40km/h speed limit is strictly enforced as well. With max speeds allowing 6-speed gearboxes to barely gain third gear, the contest at least approximates first world city driving if not the kind of standstill conditions regularly endured by local motorists.

The 4.2km, 40km/h max speed route of the Isuzu Fuel Eco Challenge since 2018

Interestingly, despite these restrictive driving conditions, competitors have turned in some numbers that actually approximate highway mileage figures. Last year, Isuzu vehicle owners from among the brand’s dealership ranks recorded 20.7 and 17.6km/l on winning runs with the D-Max and the mu-X, respectively. This month, on the initial leg held on August 3, members of the mu-X OP car club started the contest series with impressive mileage scores of 18.1 and 16.9km/l for the D-Max and the mu-X, respectively. And these numbers stand to be improved on by subsequent contest runs happening with other clubs in August.

Refined next-gen diesel

A top scoring driver from the mu-X OP club observed that while the current 3.0 liter 4JJ1-TCX Euro 4 engine option is rated higher, the new 1.9L RZ4E does deliver enough power and torque–more than on the larger 2.5 liter 4JK1-TC initial engine offering on the mu-X SUV. Another top scoring driver added that the RZ4E is also very responsive, answering crisply to every light tap on the accelerator pedal–the new engine remaining as responsive as the short-stroke over-squared 2.5 liter 4JK1-TC despite the RZ4E’s return to a diesel engine’s typically long under-square stroke.

The exceptional mileage figures they scored and the increased power density and responsive revving they observed point to RZ4E innovations such as improved combustion chamber geometry and pistons made lighter with carbon-fiber segments (keeping the under-square diesel responsive to accelerator inputs).

We ourselves participated in the first leg contest on August 3, and here we confirmed an observation we made on a previous, week-long test-drive: the RZ4E is so refined, you’d mistake it for a large, naturally aspirated gasoline engine from the driver’s seat and from behind closed windows. And, quite appropriately, the RZ4E’s adequate, fuel efficient and smoothened power seems well fitted to city-friendly 4×2 6AT variants of the D-Max pickup and mu-X SUV, the utility models that Isuzu has pioneered at turning into iconic passenger car alternatives.

D-Max Boondock introduced at kick-off of Isuzu dealership open-house series

Isuzu Philippines introduced the current special edition Boondock variant of their popular D-Max pick up last weekend at Isuzu Sta. Rosa in Laguna where they also held the first of a series of open-house events to offer repeat customers exclusive discounts and gift voucher incentives.

Boondock: a westernization of the Tagalog word “bundok,” the term dates back to the early 20th century when U.S. military men in the Philippines would put on their boondockers (field boots) to go hiking in the boondocks (mountains).  Originally used to brand an off-roading special edition of the first generation D-Max a decade ago, the Boondock badge now returns on enhanced top-spec 3.0 LS 4×2 variants featuring larger all-terrain tires on a higher-raised and stiffened undercarriage plus body extensions that make the mid-size pickups even tougher and more versatile.

Large and knobby 265/70 R17 Yokohama Geolandar G015 all-terrain tires add to the Boondock’s rough-road flexibility adding more than 3cm to wheel diameters (compared to the 255/60 R18 tires of the standard 3.0 LS variant) and boosting the ground clearance up by 1.2cm (up to 24.7cm up from the 23.5cm of the standard LS).  Handling with the higher profile tires is compensated for with monotube nitrogen-filled high-performance shock absorbers where the neutral gas allows high pressurization of the hydraulic oil, delivering stronger damping control on springs while avoiding foaming of the pressurized oil.

The Boondock is offered in black or grey finish with more visible enhancements being …

  • Over fender and cargo bay wall extenders in contrasting color finish (grey on black or vice versa)
  • Black roof rails and side rocker panels
  • Steel, matte-black honeycomb-perforated sidestep with Boondock logo
  • The Boondock decal on the rear tailgate

Positioned above the D-Max’s urban-sleeked 4×2 X-Series edition, list prices for the D-Max 3.0 LS 4×2 Boondock special edition are P1.390M for the MT sub-variant, P1.450M for the AT.

<SOURCE> Press Statement of Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “‘I Love Isuzu’ campaign shifts to Sta Rosa, as the D-MAX Boondock debuts in ‘Open House’,” 2019:

A month after the festive and successful launch of the “I Love Isuzu” campaign last April 25 at the Festival Supermall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) shifts the celebration a bit further south at Isuzu Santa Rosa.

The focus of the “Open House” has now been the launch of the new Isuzu D-MAX Boondock.

The “Open House” concept, part of the “I Love Isuzu” campaign, makes Isuzu Santa Rosa dealership, its vehicle roster and aftermarket services, closer to its customers and potential buyers by way of fun and engaging activities, contests and promotions; the introduction of the new D-MAX Boondock.

The festivities started early with the motorcade of 24 vehicles drumming up excitement along the designated route from a SHELL station in Biñan going to the dealership.

The D-MAX Boondock was finally revealed after IPC Product Planning Head Robert Carlos described the new and exciting details about the pick-up.

And based on initial feedback by customers and members of the D-MAX Club coming from Team Isuzu Pilipinas and Team ICE in attendance, the D-MAX Boondock Edition packs in more of the tough, durable, and powerful persona that truly befits its name, its intended natural habitat.

The D-MAX Boondock Edition fits the utilitarian vehicle profile sought after by the premium lifestyle, with its higher ride height of 247 mm, 1, 900 mm overall height, off-road look, and a muscular stance that looks tough enough for anything that comes its way.

Based on the popular D-MAX 3.0L LS, the D-MAX Boondock Edition is fitted with 265/70 R 17 All-terrain tires wrapped around black alloy wheel R17 rims. This all-terrain tire has been engineered to provide ultimate traction across various conditions, whether rolling down the highway or leaving the pavement behind.

Monotube nitrogen-charged performance shock absorbers ensure instantaneous response to changing road conditions and offering faster damping reaction. As a result, improved steering control on different terrain and driving conditions is achieved.

The steel side steps not only give easy access but offer valuable protection to the pick-up body. The honeycomb design with the Boondock logo also helps in no-fuss cleaning and provides better traction during ingress and egress.

To complement the overall look, the D-MAX Boondock Edition is equipped with roof rail, cargo extender, rocker panel, over fender, and a massive Boondock decal installed at the tailgate.

Of course, the D-MAX Boondock Edition walks the talk, with its powerful, Euro-4 emissions rated 4JJ1-TCX 4-Cylinder in-line Blue Power 3.0-liter diesel engine with turbo intercooler and VGS Turbo Charger mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with gearshift indicator or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. The D-MAX Boondock Edition is able to generate maximum power outputs of 177 PS at 3,600 RPM and 380 Nm of torque at 1,800 to 2,800 RPM.

Available in Cosmic Black and Galena Gray colors, the Isuzu D-MAX Boondock Edition is priced at P1.390 million for the D-MAX 3.0 4×2 LS MT Boondock, and P1.455 million for the D-MAX 3.0 4×2 LS AT Boondock.

Beyond the debut of the Isuzu D-MAX Boondock Edition, the “Open House” in Isuzu Sta. Rosa underscores how valuable Isuzu customers and the Filipino motoring public are to IPC, and it shows once more in the “I Love Isuzu” campaign in the dealership.

The “I Love Isuzu” campaign has entailed months of research, planning, and collaboration among IPC and its dealers, business partners, suppliers, and the various Isuzu auto clubs across the country. The campaign perfectly represents IPC and continues the good relationship with long-time clients and partners.

The “I Love Isuzu” campaign has hinged on not just Isuzu vehicles’ exceptional durability, reliability, power, performance, and fuel-efficiency, but also on the entire motoring lifestyle experience of their owners and their families and friends, the kind of lifestyle experiences that have evolved into fond memories throughout the decades.

Isuzu Sta. Rosa’s “Open House” as an integral part of the campaign, has lined up various activities and rewards schemes for its clients, customers and stakeholders, including: Special 10K worth of Isuzu Parts Coupon for closed transactions, 3K worth of SHELL Fuel Voucher for every successful referral offered to existing clients and 20% Isuzu Genuine Parts Discount. In addition to this, a whole day of bankers’ and client test drive, Fleet Service Clinic and open service shop for clients.

First blood

In this market, back in the early 2000’s, it’s the Isuzu D-Max that mainstreamed the muscle truck. Now, high-riding pickups on big, all-terrain tires are common enough, the profile no longer reserved for 4×4’s.

Isuzu launches this year’s D-Max and Mu-X limited editions

After last year’s X- and Black-series limited issue variants for their D-Max pickup and Mu-X SUV, respectively, and their early launch last September of their Blue Power models with up-rated and updated Euro 4 engines, Isuzu keeps up their diesel-driven market-leading momentum with new top-of-the-line limited editions of their popular sport utilities. Last Friday, at events for media and for their dealership network, Isuzu rolled out their big guns anew, introducing the D-Max X-series for 2018,  and their new Mu-X Luxe line.

Based on the lighter, soft-roading 4×2 top-end LS variants of the D-Max and Mu-X, these new limited issues are clearly meant for up-market urban motorists. This year’s D-Max X-series functions as a dress-up demonstrator, showing how the popular workhorse truck can be slicked up with spoilers, body fairings and exclusively-designed, locally-crafted 18″ black alloy rims with distinct red trim. In contrast, the Mu-X Luxe, as the top variant of their last remaining three-row utility (after the retirement this year of their classic Crosswind AUV line), has been refined further for the role of urban family runabout.

With her exceptionally stable running gear left refreshingly rugged (with none of the softening inflicted on other popular SUVs turned urban people movers), this Mu-X Luxe edition brandishes a stand-out color scheme.  Isuzu Marketing Head Joseph Bautista says that the Mu-X Luxe’s Spinel red marks only the second time that Isuzu global allowed the use of the color that’s traditionally reserved for royalty in the Asian region (the first time was last year, with the D-Max 2017 X-series’ Venetian red).

At the Mu-X Luxe’s cargo carrying business end, the tailgate has been outfitted with a next generation opening/closing servo that’s been hardened against folks who don’t know about this feature. If well-meaning helpers inadvertently try to open/close the tailgate manually, the system goes into neutral, disengaging gears and solenoids which could otherwise be damaged.  A nice, subtle yet robust touch for lightening Dad’s or Mom’s workload on those everyday drives.

<SOURCE> Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), “SPORTY & LUXURIOUS: Isuzu introduces latest variants of D-MAX and mu-X,” 2018:

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) recently launched two new limited edition variants to add excitement to the existing line-up of its Isuzu D-MAX and Isuzu mu-X models.

On February 23, IPC displayed the latest edition of the Isuzu D-MAX X-Series which serves as the model’s offering to the younger market segment; alongside is the new mu-X Luxe which as the name suggests is the most well-appointed mu-X variant to date.

“Keeping our line-up fresh is the key to the very demanding market, especially for the pick-up and SUV segment. To keep up with the competition, we are offering two new variants which are designed to exude the more aggressive and luxurious side of the D-MAX and mu-X models,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.

2018 D-MAX X-Series

Dressed to be more edgy, the 2018 edition of the D-Max X-Series now has a black radiator grille with red Isuzu logo, a front and rear skirt lined with a deep red accent which not only adds to its looks but also assist in the vehicles over-all aerodynamics.

More on the exterior, the X-Series also has a color-keyed sleek cargo spoiler, matte black roof rails and red fog lamp garnish. To top off its look, the X-Series now has a black 18-inch alloy wheels with a matching red lip accent.

Inside the cabin, the X-Series has a rocker plate with illuminated red Isuzu logo and additional multiple USB ports for driver and passenger convenience.

New mu-X ‘Luxe’

Meanwhile, the mu-X also sees a new addition to its line-up with the new mu-X ‘Luxe’ which brings together superior features that delivers a statement and status of a premium SUV.

The luxury edition mu-X is equipped with Power Lift Tailgate which opens and closes with a touch of button – for a hassle-free cargo loading. For added styling, light gray fender flares are installed which doubles as a protective feature to deflect rocks and debris away from the vehicle’s body.

Adding to its already premium interior, mu-X Luxe has a new blue illuminated scuff plate and 3D surround sound system to complete the over-all luxurious experience while driving or riding the new mu-X Luxe.

Engine, Color & Pricing

Available only on a 4×2 drivetrain, both the D-MAX X-Series and mu-X Luxe runs on the ever-reliable 4JJ1-TCX 3.0L Blue Power Diesel engine that is EURO 4 complaint and is capable to produce 177 PS maximum power and 380 N-m maximum torque.

The Isuzu Big Meet: a two decade history writ large in big-boned utilities

Celebrating their second decade this year, Isuzu Philippines organized the biggest meet-up of the marque’s vehicle owner clubs in the country and showcased their phenomenal success in shaping the mindset of Filipino motorists. Car owners came from all over and assembled a museum on wheels, on many wheels, bringing Isuzu’s very first Hi-Lander which evolved into the Crosswind AUV, their Fuego that passed on the torch to the popular D-Max pick-up, and their much-loved Alterra that was succeeded by the Mu-X SUV. They brought Isuzu’s history recorded in robust rolling stock.

Each and every one a utility model, Isuzu Philippines’ retail  offerings through the years have exclusively been light commercial vehicles–discontinued were the classic Gemini (and affiliated GM Holden) sedans that previous distributorships brought here before Isuzu Philippines took the reins for the brand, and for the country. Now, after twenty years of them pushing hard metal utility vehicles instead of conventional passenger models, it’s the market that’s come around to Isuzu’s way of thinking. Note today’s AUV’s and Asian spun MPV’s, those high-riding and sporty pick-up trucks, and, of course, those commonplace any-road SUV’s.

<Source> Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines, “Isuzu PH successfully holds biggest meet up for customers,” 2017:

Celebrating two decades of success in the business is not easy. The learnings, perseverance, and challenges, are some of the fundamentals on how to achieve sustainable growth in the company.

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), recently celebrated two decades of success following the gathering of its biggest event for their recognized Isuzu clubs; Team Isuzu Pilipinas, Team Isuzu Car Enthusiast and mu-X Owners Philippines.

Dubbed as “Isuzu Big Meet,” the event, which was held at Megatent in Libis, Quezon City, was made to promote camaraderie between Isuzu vehicle owners, as well as recording the biggest gathering of Isuzu club members in one place.

Isuzu marketing executives together with the winners of the Isuzu Big Meet show

More than 300 Isuzu owners with their vehicles joined the grand meet, which displayed Isuzu’s current light commercial vehicle line-up, namely the Crosswind AUV, D-MAX pick-up and mu-X SUV, alongside its iconic models like the Hi-Lander, Fuego pick-up and Alterra.

To make event more exciting, IPC held its first car show for stock and modified Isuzu vehicles. Open for all clubs are categories such as Best AUV, Best Pick-up, and Best SUV. Meanwhile for the modified categories, Isuzu clubs competed on Best Engine Set-up, Best Sound/Entertainment System Set-up, and Best 4×4 Vehicle Set-up.

Judged by IPC executives and members of the motoring media, champions emerged from each club; Victor Candelaria (Best AUV), Dr. Roman Remo (Best Pick-up), JT Lerma (Best SUV), Ivan De Castro (Best Engine Set-up), Deni Von Amatorio (Best Sound/Entertainment) and Vic Makimkim (Best 4×4 Set-up). Each of them received cash prize, trophy, and premium Isuzu merchandise; as well as cash prizes and premium merchandise to the first and second runner-up winners.

Moreover, the owners of the Oldest Isuzu Model and the Highest KM Mileage in attendance, were also given recognition and prizes, Oldest Model awards was given to Alex Cabungal for his 1976 Gemini. Chito Villanueva from Team Isuzu Pilipinas took the highest mileage award for recording 998,628 kilometers on his Isuzu Hi-Lander.

Part of the giving thanks to its loyal customers, IPC provided an exclusive 20-percent discount to all event participants applicable to all Isuzu merchandise, parts and accessories displayed during the event.

The afternoon session was filled with fun games like the burger and hotdog eating contest participated by all clubs, and band entertainment by IPC Band, Pub Forties and PUPIL.

IPC President Hajime Koso expressed his elation over the success of the program, saying that the event is a true testament on the reliability and trustworthiness of the brand with Filipinos motorists.

“We are thankful for the trust that you have continually showed us over the course of the years. We value this partnership and rest assured that we will continue to provide utmost quality and topnotch service every time you would seek our service,” Koso said. “Just like car clubs, we want everyone to join hands and be united not just on meets, but also on the road,” he added.

Car Awards top picks on display at TransSportShow 2017

Manila, 21 April 2017—Top picks of the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) in 2016 are on display at the 26th TransSportShow event being held at the SMX Convention Center from April 20 to 23 this week. Exhibited are the Honda Civic RS Turbo sedan and the Isuzu D-Max 4×2 pickup, last year’s winners of CAGI’s Car of the Year (COTY) and Truck of the Year (TOTY) titles, respectively.

CAGI president Ronald de los Reyes expressed the group’s gratitude to the event organizers and said: “This is a chance for us to display the victors from last year after a thorough screening process. It’s one way for the public to know that citations given to these vehicles aren’t just ordinary awards.”

The title winners had topped CAGI’s list of over 70 vehicles scrutinized in 2016 with the assistance of Carmudi Philippines, Ayala Land and auditing firm KPMG. CAGI itself is a non-stock / non-profit corporation, an organization of motoring journalists who’ve come together to annually test for and identify the best vehicles in the market.

For these annual COTY and TOTY competitions, the group’s methodology is uniquely two-fold: instrumented tests capture quantitative indices on vehicles’ real world acceleration, braking and handling characteristics; while CAGI’s cadre of journalist jurors get behind the wheel for qualitative evaluation of vehicle aesthetics, ergonomics, comfort and driving dynamics.

Their participation at TransSportShow 2017 is part of CAGI’s advocacy program for this year, their exhibition this month to be followed by talks hosted by various car dealerships in May and June.

The Isuzu D-Max LS 2.5L 4×2 MT, at home in the city

BIG as the D-Max is, the iconic high-riding truck is still at home on city streets.

Rich torque for sprinting and short-shifting: With torque peaking early at 320Nm, this D-Max variant feels good in a sprint but a better use of the early onset push is to go easy on the throttle and trigger those upshifts when you reach 1500rpm.  This’ll make for a brisk shift ladder with an upshift into 2nd at 10km/h, into 3rd at 25, 4th at 40, and finally into 5th at 55km/h.  Be alert for these early shifts and you’ll easily get an impressive 11km/l even in moderate to heavy city traffic.

Tall but also nimble: BIG as she is riding high atop fat tires, the D-Max makes easy work of unpaved patches. And yet, her wheelbase geometry, mindful overhangs and balanced handling also keeps her nimble enough to smoothly navigate crowded city roads and structures.

New X-Series makes 38.46km/l D-Max even slicker

Taguig City, Philippines | 27 January 2017—Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has unveiled the new D-Max LS X-Series, adding limited-edition touches to the popular pick-up’s 4×2 top-spec trim that refine the aerodynamics of the top-scoring 38.46km/l diesel sipper.

“There is no denying that the Isuzu D-MAX is an ideal vehicle for leisure activities and is also a highly capable workhorse. With the arrival of the new D-MAX X-Series, the model now addresses the lifestyle mobility requirement of active and urbane families too. So now, no other pickup truck available in the local market can offer the combination of utility, reliability, versatility and high style that the D-MAX X-Series does,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.

Distinguished by a gunmetal-grey radiator grille with bright red Isuzu badge in the center and limited-issue two-tone 18” wheels, the X-Series D-Max features factory-fitted spoilers in the front, at the sides and atop the leading edge of the cargo deck to make it even more stable and whittle down its aerodynamic drag co-efficient at cruising speeds. A front skirt to scoop away air flowing under the vehicle adds down-force for a touch more control traction. While, on the cargo box, top-edge fairings along the side and up against the crew cab, plus trailing bottom side-skirts, mitigate drag-inducing turbulence.

“Isuzu Philippines sold 3,966 D-MAX units in 2016, with deliveries rising 27.3 percent when compared to the model’s sales result in 2015. This growth, which is in lockstep with the pace of commercial vehicle demand in the country, was fueled largely by the continuous upgrades that the D-MAX has received. The introduction of the new X-Series line is meant to sustain the D-MAX’s upward trajectory,” Koso said.

The enhancements ought to improve fuel-efficiency further on the D-Max which had garnered the top-score, that 38.46km/l rating, at the mass fuel-eco run done by the Department of Energy in May 2016 (with same generation model, 3rd-gen, though before the September facelift, and with the same 3.0L CRDi VGS turbodiesel). Completing the premium kit-out are black leather interior touches featuring red stitching to match the exterior’s red accents, and intricately embroidered X-Series badges on the front-seat seat-backs.

“Aside from its already sporty looks, Isuzu collaborated with Under Armour to create a special X-Series collection sports apparel and items which are ideal for those buying this limited edition D-MAX variant. We picked this brand because it embodies the same characteristic of the X-Series which is tough and active” Koso added.

Premium items create another dimension to buying into the X-Series package. Partnering up with a leading sports brand, Isuzu bundles a selection of Under Armour products with an X-Series purchase—buyers can select from among a variety of Under Armour sport shirts, accessories and bags.

X-Series editions are offered for the 4×2 variants of the D-Max top-trim 3.0L LS line-up, adding P100k to the list price and coming out to P1.26M for the MT model and P 1.33M for the AT. Available colors are Splash White, Venetian Red and Cosmic Black.
