Hino shows FlatFormer concept at Tokyo Motor Show

Hino exhibited their FlatFormer next-generation cargo delivery concept at the recently concluded 46th Tokyo Motor Show.

Developed in partnership with REE Auto of Israel,  the FlatFormer is an electric autonomous-driving transporter with in-wheel motors in front and geared motors, one for each side’s pair of wheels, in the rear.  It’s full-time front-wheel-drive with all-wheel 6×6 drive kicking in on-demand to add power. The two full-time drive motors in front and the two on-demand motors in the rear deliver a total of 170Kw or 228hp.

With all autonomous driving and powertrain components tamped down into what’s little more than a flat and stable cargo platform, the vehicle works with intelligent cargo container bodies that have integral jacks to lift themselves onto and off of the FlatFormer’s  deck.
