Mitsubishi launches face-lifted Xpander with test drive fest

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has introduced their face-lifted Xpander MPV with the “Reimagine your ride: The Mitsubishi test drive” event held at Block 16 of the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds this month. The Philippines is the second largest Asian market for the Xpander which was first introduced globally in 2017 from Indonesia where the model quickly became the second-best selling MPV next to the Toyota Avanza in 2018. List prices for the new Xpander start at PHP1.030M.

Press Statement by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., “New Xpander formally unveiled and now at all Mitsubishi motors dealerships nationwide,” 19 May 2022:

May 19, 2022, Pasay City–Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) today formally unveiled the much-anticipated New Xpander. This latest iteration of the brand’s best-selling model redefines the MPV segment sporting a more advanced and progressive look while combining luxury and comfort akin to larger SUVs.

“We are excited for Filipinos to finally be able to see in metal the New Xpander. Mitsubishi Motors wanted to further evolve the Xpander and assert its number 1 position in the market. We have enhanced its unique selling propositions while upholding the traits that have made it the MPV that it is today. Expect a reimagined ride that will tap into your adventurous spirit and re-excite you to hit the road and go outdoors,” said Mr. Takeshi Hara, MMPC’s President and CEO.

Design

Developed to exude more “active” and “tough” characteristics. Starting with the exterior, the front embraces a more horizontal structure with the addition of 3-dimensional skid guards. Evident are the new black metallic radiator grille and the now signature T-shape headlight with a restyled LED daytime running lights (DRL) and turn signal.

The back also shows off an upgraded appearance with the adoption of a homogeneous T-shape taillight unto the reshaped bumper as well as tailgate garnish and glass. On the sides, noticeable are the bigger 17-inch wheels and larger side sill garnish.

Stepping inside, Mitsubishi’s Design Identity of “Horizontal Axis” was applied to the dashboard for a more robust feel. This is complemented by accents of soft padded materials with real stitches. At the driver’s seat, the tilt and telescopic steering wheel, aside from its now more modern styling, has been restructured with a compact center to enable a better grip. Behind it, a new meter cluster and dynamic opening graphic have been incorporated.

Comfort and Peace of Mind

Hard to miss is the patented 7-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA-3). A touchscreen infotainment system that supports hands-free functions and is compatible to both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. At the bottom of it is a new digital LCD A/C panel that was made not only to match the overall aesthetic but also to be easy-to-understand. For improved convenience, the front console has been converted into a larger capacity open tray while still having a 12V outlet and USB port

Down the center is the new floor console with arm rests that can hold a tissue pack on the back of its lid and four 600 ml-sized bottles in the main space. The layout of the console cup holders have been reoriented sideways and now with a larger circumference. All these to offer better organization and maximization of space.

In the second row, it can be seen that the two rear USB ports now have 1 TYPE-A and 1 TYPE-C embedded on the back of the console. The rear A/C dial and louver now also have more inviting colors and cup holders have been placed unto the seat armrest. All these form part of the improvements to overall ergonomics. Customer favorites such as the easy-folding seat mechanisms, front row and luggage under trays, multi-function seat-back pockets and third row power outlets can still be found.

With all seats up, this 7-seater has more than enough room for full-size adults plus luggage. Configured to have more hip-width and ample room from the head to toe while being able to fit four 4-gallon water bottles or a stroller directly behind the last row. Whereas when folded, a flat cargo deck with no sticking up bits or gaps can be utilized. Versatility at its finest, making it easier to transport bikes, potted plants or even furniture as needed.

Still the only one in the category equipped with Cruise Control, that aid in reducing fatigue on long trips. A reverse camera has also been included to help provide more visibility while backing up.

Drivability and Utility

Steering and suspension settings have also been optimized. The enlarged rear absorber along with extra front and rear springs and high performance valves, result to a flatter and more comfortable ride even on winding roads. Moreover, a steering wheel return control was integrated for better maneuverability at low speeds to relieve driver stress.

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Brake Auto Hold (BAH) buttons are now part of the shift panel. For increased relaxation particularly during traffic situations, the former allows the brakes to be stepped on with less force, and the latter, if stationary, does not require a foot down on the pedal. These together with Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HAS), and Traction Control (TCL) now come standard for automatic transmission variants.

Continuing to be the best in its class when it comes to ground clearance. Increased to 225-mm, this gives the driver a higher eye-point for better recognition of road conditions and added confidence especially during floods. Under the hood is a 1.5 MIVEC DOHC 16-valve with 103 hp and 141 n-M torque. Ever-reliable with respect to fuel economy while being assured of a powerful performance.

Retail price starts at 1,030,000 with 5 color options which are White Pearl, Graphite Gray, Black, Red, Sunshine Orange and the newest Blade Silver Metallic. For a more in-depth look of the variants, check out the brand’s official website or view it at any Mitsubishi Motors authorized outlet.

The New Xpander is available for test drive at the Reimagine Your Ride: The Mitsubishi Test Drive Tour from May 20 to 22 happening at Block 16 SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Situated along the main road of Lacson Street in Zone 15 Poblacion, it has a land area of 4,200 m2 that shows off a 7-vehicle display at the main showroom and 18 car bays in their service area.

Negros Occidental is the northwestern half of Negros, the fourth-largest and second-most populated island of the Philippines. Known to be the country’s “sugarbowl” because of its countryside being rich in extremely sweet raw sugar canes. But with Bacolod as its capital, the province embraced urbanization over the years. Commerce has taken shape through investments and establishments such as oil companies’ factories, bottling plants, steel fabricators, business processing outsourcing hubs, PEZA-registered IT parks and centers, and domestic and international airports.

“We are extremely thankful and very humbled to be given this opportunity to open another Mitsubishi dealership. This is also very special to us because this is our first dealership in the province of Negros Occidental,” according to Mr. Markane Goho, Chairman of the Gateway Group. “We are fully committed to contribute in increasing the sales and market share as well as uplifting the Mitsubishi brand image. We look forward to more new and happy Mitsubishi customers in this beautiful island of Negros.”

An online gathering was held on February 18, Friday, to officially welcome Mitsubishi Talisay Negros to the brand’s expansive dealer network. Present there was Mr. Goho along with the rest of Gateway’s management and their President Raymund Basubas as well as MMPC managers and executive officers led by Mr. Takeshi Hara, President and CEO. It was also in celebration of the re-launch of Mitsubishi Motors Quezon Avenue which is now under the same group.

“It is no secret that the Gateway Group has a history of success and expertise. This is proven not just by their longevity in the business but also in the way they embrace challenge. Re-launching an already existing dealership with Quezon Avenue and opening in a new region with Negros, simultaneously, is no easy feat,” said Mr. Hara. “We however at MMPC have full confidence that Gateway will help us realize our mission of enhancing the car life of more Filipinos. It is such a delight, that they recognize our commitment to provide customers with quality products and give them the care that they, and their Mitsubishi cars, deserve.”

Mitsubishi Motors gives P1M to Philippine Red Cross fund for continued Typhoon Odette recovery

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, the country’s longest running automotive manufacturing operation, has contributed P1M to the Philippine Red Cross’ fund for continued aid to communities hit hard by Typhoon Odette.  Already several months after being pummeled by the most destructive typhoon of 2021, entire towns in Visayas, Mindanao and Luzon’s Palawan still haven’t recovered from the effects of Odette.

Press Statement by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., “Mitsubishi Motors makes 1M pesos contribution to the Philippine Red Cross fund for continuous support to Typhoon Odette victims,” 16 February 2022:

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) heeds to the call of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for continuous aid for Typhoon Odette-hit communities by making a one million pesos contribution. Almost two months following what was recorded as the most destructive storm in 2021, locals across Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan still require support.

The disaster-specific fund founded by PRC back in December was intended not only to deliver immediate relief but also aid long-term rehabilitation. Those residing in the aforementioned areas are still making ends meet on top of the challenges of the ongoing pandemic. The brand’s donation will be utilized to prepare relief packages that will be distributed to households particularly in Surigao Del Norte as they move out of temporary shelters into transitional housing that enable more stability in terms of livelihood and daily living.

“MMPC would like to thank the Philippine Red Cross for giving us the opportunity to help families that were affected by Typhoon Odette. We understand the magnitude of devastation that they absorbed and Mitsubishi Motors aims to assist with their recovery,” said by MMPC President and CEO, Mr. Takeshi Hara during the official virtual turnover that was held last February 4, Friday. “Our commitment to the Philippines goes beyond providing quality cars and vehicle service as it extends to a vision of being a medium in making the life of every Filipino better”.

PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard Gordon, was also in attendance during the online ceremony and said, “I would like to thank MMPC and to Mr. Takeshi Hara for choosing Philippine Red Cross as your partner of choice in delivering much needed relief for Typhoon Odette-hit communities. Through your generous donation, PRC will be able to strengthen and hasten relief efforts to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people. May we continue to be partners in helping the most vulnerable as we help them through this crisis”.

He also highlighted some achievements throughout the course of their operations including the distribution of Hot Meals, food and non-food items, clean and potable water, shelter repair kits, psychosocial support, clearing operations, sleeping kits, multipurpose cash grants, facemasks, and medicines.

Mitsubishi Imus, officially open

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines formally opened their 59th dealership in the country– Mitsubishi Imus in Cavite that’s operated by Mizukawa Motors Corporation. The new Mistubishi dealership is the second one being operated by Mizukawa Motors, the first one having opened in Batangas in October 2020.

Press Statement by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., “Mitsubishi officially opens its doors at Imus cavite through Mizukawa Motors Corporation,” 11 February 2021:

Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Anabu. Mitsubishi Imus becomes the 59th dealership in the brand’s expanding network and the 2nd under MZM, the first being in Batangas last October 2020.

Imus, although remains to be an agricultural society known for native kakanins (or sticky rice cakes), has transformed into one of the most industrialized provinces in the country. Considering the distance from Metro Manila, it has become a favorable site among corporations for manufacturing support facilities like those in Imus Informal Industrial Estate, Anabu Hills Industrial Estate and EMI Special Economic Zone. Aside from that, Cavite’s booming capital has become a prime location for investments in infrastructure and estate, such as Vermosa, and trade, as showcased at the Imus Commercial and Business District along Nueño Avenue.

Mitsubishi’s newest outlet aims to be part of this development and cater to the growing transportation needs of both neighborhoods and businesses in this sector of South Luzon. With a total floor area of 3,544-m2 it houses a showroom display area of 6 vehicles and a service workshop that can accommodate up to 15 vehicles. Imusenos now have easier access to the brand’s products starting with the ever-reliable L300, the best-selling MPV, Xpander, and the recently launched Mirage G4 GLS Sport. Furthermore, the availability of parts alongside the care and expertise of Mitsubishi service advisors and technicians are also within better reach.

Due to still heightened COVID-19 alert levels across CALABARZON, a virtual inauguration was held on February 11 in place of the usual in-person ceremony. “On behalf of our team in Mizukawa Motors Corporation, we welcome everyone to our newest dealership in the South, Mitsubishi Imus,” according to Mr. Paolo Borromeo, MZM President. He also addressed new and soon-to-be customers, “Come and visit our showroom to view and test drive the latest Mitsubishi vehicles. We invite you to book your service appointments for preventive maintenance, body and paint repair and general jobs. Having a team of trained professionals with the latest and advanced tools and equipment, we will provide you with the utmost service and excellent customer experience.”

President and CEO Mr. Takeshi Hara was also present to lead MMPC during the online gathering. “We are grateful for this continuing partnership with MZM. Another successful dealership opening under your belt! Thank you for being one with us in offering a wonderful car life experience to more Filipino customers for their personal or entrepreneurial use,” he says to congratulate the group. “We are glad to now be fully operational here at the third district of Cavite. Expansion is and has always been key pillar for us. This is only the first for 2022, please look forward to where Mitsubishi will be next.” For more of the latest, visit Mitsubishi’s official website and follow the brand’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

“MMPC is honored to be a part of the 2021 PNSC. We are glad that we were able to share our world-class facility and equipment to further hone and put in display incredible, young talent. So we are looking forward to even more partnership breakthroughs geared towards the betterment of the lives of Filipinos”, said Mr. Takeshi Hara, CEO and President of MMPC. “To all the participants, on behalf of MMPC, congratulations for making it through! Mitsubishi Philippines, first carmaker to get DOLE Safety Seal

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC), the country’s longest operating automotive manufacturer, reports becoming the first carmaker to earn the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Safety Seal–certifying MMPC’s compliance with public health standards and signifying their participation in the national program to restore confidence and reopen the economy.

Press Statement by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., “MMPC becomes the first car manufacturer in the Philippines to receive DOLE’s Safety Seal,” 20 December 2021:

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) officially received a “Safety Seal” from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). On November 18, 2021, MMPC became the first and only car manufacturer in the country with such an accreditation.

The Safety Seal certifies that an establishment or institution strictly observes the minimum public health standards set by the government and/or has successfully integrated with StaySafe.ph, the country’s centralized contact tracing databank. Both of which MMPC has qualified in. This national program aims to restore public confidence in an effort to slowly reopen the economy as supported by other sectoral offices like the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Tourism, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“Mitsubishi has always put a premium on safety not just in the engineering of our cars but also in the way we conduct business. That is why MMPC, being the longest staying automotive company in the country, wants to do its part to be alongside Filipinos transitioning into the new normal,” said Mr. Takeshi Hara, President and CEO of MMPC. “We make it a point to maintain only the highest standards when it comes to health and safety at the workplace. Through it we create a space with minimal hazards that enable positivity and productivity among our employees.”

MMPC’s Safety Seal covers its Sta. Rosa Plant and Parts Warehouse in the Greenfield Automotive Park-Special Economic Zone (GAP-SEZ) and will be valid for 6 months. The latter is to ensure the credibility and timeliness of the badge. All holders will be required to file for renewal and undergo DOLE’s rigorous inspection process all over again after the aforementioned period.

“COVID-19 has taught us many important lessons, one in particular is the importance of emotional well-being. Through our newly issued DOLE certification, we want to offer peace of mind and assure our customers, partners and the general public that Mitsubishi Motors takes safety very seriously,” Mr. Hara adds. This is one of the components of MMPC’s new local slogan Life Made Better. The brand is adopting a more holistic approach to deliver value in every step of a Filipino’s vehicle ownership journey and fulfill its commitment to the betterment of the economy. Learn more about it through Mitsubishi’s official website and Facebook Page.
