Isuzu Philippines has rolled out the D-Max Limited, the first factory-accessorized variant of the popular pick-up’s third generation model that was introduced globally in June 2020 and here in March 2021. Priced at P1.580M, the new offering is based on the D-Max’s bestselling P1.460M 3.0 4×2 LS-A AT variant with a P0.120M price bump being asked for: (1) the exclusivity of a limited 200-unit run; (2) new front grille, side and rear treatments; and (3), an enhanced suspension system with mono-tube dampers and solid shackles that raise its ground clearance to a groundbreaking 260mm.

The new, limited-run offering spotlights the sweetspot in the middle of what is now the D-Max’s 9-variant lineup with its nearly P1M price spread between the P0.917M 1.9 liter RZ4E Single Cab 4×2 MT and the P1.905M top-spec’d 3.0 liter 4×4 LS-E AT. While already based on the popular 3.0 liter 2-wheel drive luxury trim variant, the D-Max Limited’s P0.120M price rise seems offset by more resale points gained from its 200-unit production run. It also helps that all modification accessories on the D-Max Limited come with brand authenticity, having been designed by Isuzu Accessories and Service Parts at their Thai production hub.

Introduced here in the same week that the face-lifted third generation D-Max was unveiled globally, the Limited’s front grille modification causes the special variant to fork-off earnestly from the original design while keeping it significantly different from the refreshed model with its revised fascia. The Limited’s blacked out grille opens up the venting, eliminating those horizontal upper-grille devices that look like upper fangs on the original design and like upturned tusks on the update. The D-Max Limited’s new grille is more milspec and tactical in comparison to the predatory creature looks on original and facelifted 3rd-gen D-Maxes–we’re saying this is a good thing.
RWD photo from 12 October 2023 launch event
The nitrogen-charged mono-tube shock absorbers mated to its stabilized double-wishbone coil-sprung front, and to soft-ride leaf springs with solid shackles at the rear, have raised the D-Max Limited’s ground clearance up to an unprecedented 260mm. This is 20mm higher than the model’s top-of-the-line 4×4 LS-E variant’s 240mm (and 13mm more than the 247mm of the previous-generation model’s special 4×4 Boondock variant–itself having mono-tube shocks that raised it 12mm above its stock platform).
RWD photo from 12 October 2023 launch event
Predictably, many will point out the irony of lifting a rear-wheel driven 4×2 truck this high, possibly lobbying for a 4×4 all-terrain version of this limited-run special. But note that the 20mm upgrade also gets added to the 800mm maximum wading depth asserted by Isuzu for stock variants. And, even with the monsoon season having officially ended this week, images of sudden and paralyzing floods on national roads should remain vivid in buyers’ minds until next year’s drenchers come along, making that 260mm of class-topping clearance a deal-closing feature for the D-Max Limited as an ideal, and ironically premium, all-weather ute.
After announcing the refreshed iteration of their latest-generation Mu-X SUV last month, Isuzu Philippines officially launched this and their latest edition D-Max pickup at the Isuzu Summer Music Festival held at the Alabang Town Center from April 21 to 23, 2023.
Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “Isuzu PH officially launches latest edition of Isuzu D-MAX and mu-X,” 21 April 2023:
In a festive summer musical event hosted by Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the company introduced its latest edition of the Isuzu D-MAX and Isuzu mu-X at Alabang Town Center on April 21 to 23, 2023.
Dubbed as the ‘Isuzu Summer Music Festival”, IPC displayed its new Isuzu D-MAX and mu-X along with other activities, such as free test drive, afternoon games, dog show, car club meet-up and live performances from well-loved OPM artists to entertain the whole family.
During the opening event, IPC highlighted the new features of both models adding to the already award-winning specifications of the vehicles. The new Isuzu D-MAX is now made even more dynamic and sporty with a redesigned exterior that boasts a new two-tone front grille matched with its new matte dark gray 18-inch alloy wheels all laden in its new body color Islay Gray, giving it a rugged yet stylish look.
Meanwhile, the new mu-X was also displayed alongside D-MAX and was highlighted as a “Premium Family SUV” that’s perfect for road trips, especially this summer season. The premium SUV’s fresh new look brought by its new sleek two-tone front grille and new 20-inch alloy wheels design exudes an upscale and luxurious vibe, elevating its exterior design. The new mu-X also has a classy new color variant, Norwegian Blue which is available for LS-E variants.
To top it all off, the new Isuzu mu-X further elevates the family experience with its new owner-friendly features like the new Smart Power Tailgate with Step Sensor. This is a new feature that allows owner to open its tailgate automatically through advance key detection and sensor technology for more convenient loading and unloading of luggage.
‘Proven Durability and 5-Star Safety’ for the Family
More than the aesthetics, IPC highlighted the renowned durability and safety features of both models. Running on its Blue Power technology, both D-MAX and mu-X has 4JJ3-TCX diesel engine that optimizes performance with fuel efficiency – tried and tested to give drivers more miles on the road without having to spend much on fuel cost.
A true family vehicle is nothing without the best safety features, which both models offer. Both models are awarded with 5-Star Safety by the ASEAN NCAP, thanks to the Active and Passive safety features, as well as Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) with Smart Duo Cam which is loaded with Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Turn Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go Functionality, to name a few. All these features will surely make daily drives safer and convenient at the same time.
As IPC President Tetsuya Fujita stated, “As your responsible partner in providing durable and reliable vehicles, we are elevating your driving experience with safer, more efficient, and more comfortable drive – a drive that will suit the needs of all members of the family.”
Since their introduction to the Philippine market, the Isuzu D-MAX and mu-X have won the heart of many Filipinos because of the value for money and core values instilled in both vehicles that offer many possibilities. The durability, fuel efficiency, comfort, and convenience that Isuzu vehicles provide to both driver and passengers are what make Isuzu not just a family vehicle, but an everyday reliable partner that will accompany Filipino families to different life’s journey.

Isuzu’s latest generation D-max pickup and Mu-X SUV tandem have earned top honors from motoring enthusiasts this year at the Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards. The third-generation D-Max came out on top of 140 competing models in multiple categories, earning the overall Automobile of the Year award as well as the category-specific Pick-up of the Year title, while the second-generation Mu-X (based on the third-gen D-Max) was similarly crowned SUV of the Year.
Press Statement of Isuzu Philippines Corp., “Isuzu Philippines receives Automobile of the Year, Pick-up of the Year, SUV of the year and 3 more awards in the 2021-2022 Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards,” 29 December 2021:
Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) received multiple awards for their All-New Isuzu D-MAX and Isuzu mu-x models in the recently concluded 2021-2022 Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards (AFPCA) and Media Choice Awards (AFMCA).
The AFPCA/AFMCA is organized by Sunshine Television and Marketing Services, Inc. (STV) yearly to establish the cream of the crop among the vehicles in the country via public poll. As such, the AFPCA, which gives the model and automobile of the year awards, features the voice of the public with scoring system that comprises 80% public poll and 20%-unit sales from January-November 2021. On the other hand, the AFMCA delivers the voice of the media via votes cast by select group of recognized motoring media professionals and practitioners. Its purpose is to further recognize the automobile industry’s unending efforts to provide car owners and motorists with the best on-board features, styling, performance, and overall value.
Out of 140 models in the 2021-2022 AFPCA Official Entry List for the Standard Classification consisting of sedan, sports car, SUV/Crossover, Van/MPV, and pick up models, the All-New Isuzu D-MAX emerged on top and bagged the 2021-2022 Auto Focus People’s Choice Automobile of The Year Award. Additionally, IPC’s Isuzu D-Max and Isuzu mu-X topped other popular models in the market as they took the individual category titles, 2021-2022 AFPCA Pickup of the Year and 2021-2022 AFPCA SUV of the Year, respectively.
Aside from the People’s Choice awards, the All-New Isuzu D-MAX also earned the approval of the media and hailed best in three categories of Auto Focus Media Choice Awards, namely – Best Design, Best Engine Performance and Best Value-for-Money.
“We at Isuzu are very grateful in receiving individual awards for both models as well as the prestigious 2021-2022 Automobile of the Year Award for the All-New Isuzu D-MAX. These awards provide a deeper meaning for us, as a big percentage of it came from the public – which is why, we would like to extend our thanks to our loyal customers and Isuzu fans nationwide who have been very supportive of us throughout the years. We could not have done it without you,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.

A pair of D-Max 3.0 4×4 LS-E A/T pickups–one unmodified and the other with minimal tire and suspension tweaks–have reached top roster at the 2021 edition of the Philippine Rally Cross Series.
Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “All New Isuzu D-MAX Conquers 2021 Rally Cross Series,” 22 November 2021:
Fresh from seizing the Best Pick Up Award in the 17th Annual C! Awards, the all-new Isuzu D-MAX continues to move into new heights as it conquers the tracks in the 2021 Philippine Rallycross Series (PHRX), Rounds 5 and 6, on November 7 at the open grounds of the Clark Global City, Clark Freeport, Pampanga.
Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) fielded two teams of All-New Isuzu D-MAX 3.0 4×4 LS-E A/T models led by veteran race car driver, Mon Dimapilis, who is also a businessman and Vince Pornelos, a motoring-media. The D-MAX entry composed of one unmodified D-MAX, similar condition to showroom vehicles, and the other, with changes limited to suspension and tires. It proved to be a beast on the racetrack besting many competitors who regularly compete with purpose-built rally-tuned vehicles and managing to stay within the top 3 winners in 3 different categories. Praises to its powerful 4JJ3-TCX Blue Power Diesel Engine and superb vehicle design, and of course the driver’s expertise.
Each of the D-MAX was tortured on the circuit during the race and yet survived without damage or need for repair. Both were able to drive home without problem – ready for the next working day and waiting for the next weekend race. Indeed, the All-New D-MAX once again proved its reliability and durability.
PHRX is a timed racing competition that is held on a close course track, that is basically a dirt circuit. It started in 2015 and has since accrued the respect and participation of many motorsport experts and enthusiasts. Among them is Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) who competed in 3 different categories: Open Class which is open for any engine displacement, UV Class which is for all types of pick-ups, sports and Asian utility vehicles, and AWD Class, for all types of 4-Wheel drive vehicles.

Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp., “All New Isuzu D-Max awarded Best-in-Class Pickup Truck in the 17th Annual C! Awards,” 08 November 2021:
The All-New Isuzu D-Max was named Best-in-Class Pickup Truck in C! Magazine’s 17th Annual C! Awards. The winner was officially announced by the magazine in November via press release. C! Magazine is the country’s oldest premium automotive magazine. Their annual C! Awards is among the most respected in the industry, having established its reputation on its strict comprehensive review and actual tests. The jury is composed of the magazine’s editorial staff who are required to experience driving all the vehicles being judged before passing judgement. “We’re very strict. Even if you’re part of the team, if you don’t have experience, in that particular genre, you can’t vote,” said Kevin Limjoco, President / Founding Editor / Editorial Director of C! Magazine.
Judging entails exhaustive deliberation, considering every aspect and feature of each vehicle such as overall dynamic performance, instrumented performance testing, aesthetics/design, packaging/standard equipment, comforts/luxuries, safety, efficiency, audio/infotainment quality, length of factory warranties, extent of supported aftersales maintenance, pride-of-ownership, value-for-money, resale values and more.
Hailed the runaway winner, the All-New Isuzu D-Max stands out with its network of safety features that operate automatically and independently. Its new Advanced Driver Assist System or ADAS comes with a first in its class SMART DUO CAM, which constantly maps the surrounding area to measure distance of every obstacle on the road. Since it uses a dual camera set-up, it can detect 3D objects just like how human eyes recognizes depth of field.
Because of this, the D-MAX now has multiple active safety features like pre-crash safety, speed assist, lane support and headlamp control. ADAS also offers an 8-eye Parking Aid with reverse camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
With these remarkable improvements, the All-New D-Max received a perfect 5-star rating from an international testing body, ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
Designed to ultimately provide with better driving experience, the All-New Isuzu D-MAX promises DURABILITY, POWER, PERFORMANCE, INNOVATION and SAFETY FEATURES that can bring INTO NEW HEIGHTS.
Kevin Limjoco, who is also the head juror, shared how the jury was impressed by the D-Max during an interview, “On its own, not only is the D-Max at its very best, the D-Max has never been as good as it is, until this model. It’s spectacular. Now when you compare it to its competition, that’s where it really started to present all its benefits – that it is the most comfortable, the interior, similar to whatever is in the mu-X, it has the most sophisticated, the most elegant interior. All the little adjustments to the suspension, the increase of the brakes, all the different performance upgrades were very significant. It’s a balance of all these things all put together.” Limjoco went on to praise D-Max for not just being a looker, but also for performing extremely well. “There are vehicles in the market that look great but don’t perform well. With the D-Max, it does it all. It actually is. You know that it has the Isuzu reliability, you know that it has the strength, all the users are looking for. The D-Max on road is quicker. If you look carefully at the acceleration run and speed, on road performance of the D-Max, is actually superior. Its quicker, it handles better. When you put all the reasons together, it was a slam-dunk for the D-Max,” said Limjoco.
In an official statement, Isuzu Philippines Corporation President, Hajime Koso states, “Thank you to C! Magazine and to all the judges. IPC is honored to receive this award and we share this honor with our dealers and with our valued customers. The D-Max is a symbol of our vision for sustainable development as it has undergone continuous innovations to help protect and save the environment for future generations, without compromising its looks, comfort and performance. We stay true to our commitment, “Your responsible partner.” That is why at IPC we strive to be the vital engine for Philippine society on the road to progress and towards a sustainable automotive chain.”

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the top truck brand’s exclusive assembler, importer and distributor of Isuzu vehicles in the country, donated and turned over D-Max LS A/T pickup truck to the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) last April 16. IPC’s donation is intended to support GMAKF’s ongoing “Labanan Natin ang COVID-19” campaign for providing personal protective equipment to public hospital and border frontliners, and groceries packs to indigent quarantined families, nationwide.
Of their donation, IPC president Hajime Koso said: “We are delighted again to extend our support to GMA’s public service endeavors. Their philosophy of ‘Serbisyong Totoo’ closely resonates with our own corporate values and mantra on being ‘Your Responsible Partner’ not just when it comes to being behind the wheel but also in giving back to the community.”
IPC had initially stuck up a partnership with GMAKF back in 2018–several years before the quarantine lockdowns of the COVID-19 crisis–when they committed to providing transport aid to the television network foundation’s civic emergency and relief operations. IPC president Hajime Koso reaffirmed put this commitment in context saying, “we stand by our pledge to help Filipinos in need during these tough times where the country is still combating the pandemic.”
About the vehicle IPC chose to donate to GMAKF, Koso said: “The Isuzu D-MAX is known to be tough inside and out. Known for its off-road capabilities and loading capacity, we hope that our volunteer aids will gain added confidence and be able to move easily and comfortably to reach those who are residing in remote, mountainous areas.”
Isuzu Philippines has just launched the next-generation D-Max and this new model’s lineage covers so much ground against rival brands that it’s been top of mind here since the global launch out of Thailand back in October 2019. The new model improves on the second generation D-Max which has underpinnings shared with GM’s Chevrolet Colorado that’s the platform for the US Army’s new Infantry Squad Vehicle, and represents an upgrade to the Mazda BT-50 which was previously based closely (same chassis and engine options) on the current generation (T6) Ford Ranger.
For this third iteration of their popular mid-size pickup truck, Isuzu discontinued an engineering partnership with Chevrolet that’s been in place since the 1970’s for developing three generations of Isuzu Faster models and the two Isuzu D-Max generations that succeeded these. The platform of the previous generation D-Max and current generation Chevrolet Colorado will likely be forked off and continued since it now serves as foundation to the winning prototype for the US Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicle, initial volumes for which were delivered in October 2020 (a year after the third generation D-Max was launched globally).
Influencing D-Max development now is new ally Mazda. In July 2016, three years into the D-Max’s six-year development period, Isuzu was appointed as OEM of Mazda’s next generation BT-50 pickup truck. Similar to Isuzu’s linkage with Chevrolet, Mazda had been relying on Ford Ranger foundations since the 1990’s for their final generation B2500 pickup and two generations of the BT-50 model that succeeded this. Now, based closely on the latest generation D-Max complete with its trademark Isuzu 3.0 and 1.9 liter turbodiesel engine options, the third generation Mazda BT-50 was launched globally in June 2020, just a few months after its counterpart Isuzu model. Isuzu Philippines President Hajime Koso confirms that Isuzu Thailand runs assembly lines for supplying this market with D-Max trucks and other markets with the new Mazda BT-50 model. (Mazda Philippines which recently introduced their BT-50 limited edition Pangolin variant still has the Ford-based second-generation model on offer.)
Key specs
On the new D-Max that Isuzu asserts to be stronger and safer, we noted the following integral features (characteristics that come with the package and cannot be straightforwardly acquired or added on with aftermarket enhancements):
The new 4JJ3-TCX top-spec 3.0 liter engine option delivers 190PS @ 3600rpm (a 17PS increase in power) and 450NM @ 1600~2600rpm (a 70NM increase in torque that breaks through the 400NM threshold), all these reportedly by improving on the previous generation’s 4JJ1-TCX with …
a new cylinder head
a new cylinder block
new pistons
a new Denso-sourced fuel injection system delivering 25 percent more pressure and 20 percent more efficiency
Improved balance and handling with a slightly longer wheelbase as well as the engine being moved back and mounted with its center slightly behind the front axle, in front mid-ship position
Rationalized engine and fuselage layouts that result in a slightly shorter overall length (5.277m versus 5.295m before) that nevertheless bounds what is essentially a larger model with its lengthened wheelbase (3.125m versus 3.095m before) and cargo bay (1.570m versus 1.485m before)
Stronger, bigger-boned proportions that put taller shoulders on its full body length, and stiffer shortened pillars and a squat squinty windscreen cage on its reinforced cabin
A ladder frame with expanded cross-section and improved placement of cross-members, as asserted by Isuzu, that make it lighter but also 23 percent stiffer than before
Fuselage and undercarriage engineering that increase the D-Max’s ground clearance (0.240m on top-spec 4×4 variants) and permit Isuzu to officially assert a maximum wading depth of 0.800m (which, on the D-Max, is well above the usual benchmark of the midpoint of a vehicle’s wheels)
Further, with the third generation D-Max, Isuzu Philippines introduces a new top-spec variant, the LS-E, that exclusively features automated conveniences as well as their Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) package with safety telematics for forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights high-beam, and lane departure alarm.
Price points
As stated by Isuzu Philippines Vice President for Sales Yasuhiko Oyama during the launch event last March 4, introductory prices for the new third-generation D-Max will remain at par with the price-points of the previous model. Although, with the addition of a top-spec variant featuring first world telematics, prices of their 9 variants now show a notable P0.968M spread between the P0.857M SRP for the single-cab 4×2 MT base configuration and the P1.825M list price for their new LS-E 4×4 AT top-of-the-line variant.

Targets
Also during the March 4 launch, when asked about how many third-generation D-Max units they expect to sell this year, Isuzu Philippines’ Yasuhiko Oyama said that they expect this roll-out in March to increase their share in the pickup truck market from 8 percent in 2020 to 15 percent by the end of 2021. We have to say, with their aggressive pricing and the D-Max’s DNA now putting cross-hairs on key rivals, with Isuzu improving on the previous-generation D-Max as well as on the still-current generation Chevrolet Colorado and (through Mazda) the present-generation Ford Ranger, the leading truckmaker’s goal of nearly doubling their share numbers looks feasible.
Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the country’s leading truckmaker, reached their 300,000th sold unit milestone last August with the sale of a D-Max RZ4E pickup by Isuzu Leyte. In their press statement on this subject, IPC reported that since they started operations in 1997 and by the end of last August, they had sold a total 300,133 units categorized into the following:

The event was marked with an on-line press conference on October 5 where IPC president Hajime Koso recollected their first ever sale: “During that time, we only had a total of 12 dealers nationwide. It was Isuzu Davao who first sold the Isuzu NKR85 at P475,000.”

Also during the press conference, IPC marketing head Joseph Bautista pointed out that their 300,000th milestone comes in the face of the dramatic market downturn being experienced with the CoViD-19 global public health crisis. Bautista said that Philippine automakers have reduced total year’s forecast sales volumes from 480,000 down to 240,000 units and that Isuzu Philippines has itself downgraded their 2020 projection to 11,000 vehicles.
No Crosswind comeback, but a new LCV
The bleak forecasts underscore how more than a third of Isuzu’s 300,000-unit sales is for their trademark though discontinued Asian utility vehicles (AUV) lineup. So, inevitably, there were questions about how these future and past numbers might prompt the return of the Isuzu Crosswind. But IPC’s Bautista confirms that no, they are not bringing back their classic, Euro II compliant AUV.
Isuzu Crosswind XUV variant (file photo, 2018)
Started with the Highlander, the very first model they rolled off the factory floor in 1997, and then later smoothed out and epitomized by the long-running Crosswind that was discontinued in 2018, IPC’s AUV line was the bestseller when they were racking up more than 20,000 units in annual sales. Five years ago in 2015, IPC sold their 100,000th Crosswind on their way to selling 22,581 vehicles that year.

Now, instead of the bestselling Crosswind that they discontinued two years ago, IPC is to weather the stormy market with the new Traviz 2.95 ton cab-over truck platform that they introduced last year. And, appropriately, the Traviz fits a slot in their lineup that, offhand, makes it almost as distinctive as the classic Crosswind.
Isuzu Mu-X LS (file photo, 2017)
The Traviz is IPC’s first model in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) category where they’ve had only their pickup trucks, AUVs and SUVs in the past. Its 2950kg gross vehicle weight and compact 2,250 to 2,400mm wheelbase make the Traviz more versatile than the Flexitrucks that Isuzu has been building with their 4,000kg N-series light duty trucks–the lightest among their bigger commercial vehicle category.
Vintage AUV
Ironically, the Traviz retains enough AUV DNA that it might end up as a Crosswind replacement after all. The truck’s engine is the same reliable Isuzu 2.5 liter 4JA1 low-boost turbodiesel that has powered the Crosswind for decades, but with a new high-pressure common-rail direct injection (CRDi) system that affords it enough feed control to attain Euro IV compliance.
Traviz “FB” passenger van (photo by IPC)
When paired with the customary side-seating rear passenger box, the Traviz “FB” van matches the AUV pattern that preceded its incarnation in stamped uni-body wagons such as the Isuzu Highlander predecessor of the Crosswind as well as the equally classic Toyota Revo. Before these wagons, it was the cab, chassis and passenger body combos of older Ford Fieras, Toyota Tamaraws and the like that got labeled as AUVs.

Also, with current public health restrictions requiring generous spacing between passengers, that otherwise 16- or 18-seat Traviz “FB” passenger van might be the only way to retain the capacity that Isuzu owners have come to expect from the 10-seat Crosswind wagon, and this while having a Crosswind’s reliable diesel.
Giving back
During the press conference, from IPC president Hajime Koso: “Allow me to express my sincere appreciation to our shareholders, dealers, suppliers, bodybuilders, media friends, and most especially to our loyal Filipino customers who have untiringly supported Isuzu throughout the years.”

In gratitude for reaching their 300,000th unit milestone, IPC will be implementing the following promotions from October to December this year:
300K thank you big discount promo – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, IPC will give P30,000 additional discount for the D-Max RZ4E and Traviz S (short wheelbase) models, yielding increased discounts of PhP180,000 and PhP130,000, respectively.
Shell GO+ welcome kit – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, all Isuzu buyes will receive free GO+ welcome kits with fuel cards from Isuzu partner Pilipinas Shell.
Drive the 300k promo – until October 31, Isuzu vehicles with odometer readings between 300,000 and 310,000 kms will enjoy a 30 percent discount on servicing fees for parts and labor.
Arigato frontliners program – from October 1 to December 31, 2020, all beyond-warranty Isuzu vehicles owned by frontliners can have quick, oil-change services at any Isuzu dealership for as low as PhP1,700.
Online Tambayan – on three Saturdays this month, Isuzu will hold online meets with their three biggest and most active owners’ clubs–with Mu-X Owners Philippines on October 10, with Team ICE (Isuzu Car Enthusiast) on October 17, and with Team Isuzu Pilipinas on October 24.
IPC has also stepped up their corporate social responsibility efforts in response to the public health crisis.
Since the quarantines started in March, they have been lending vehicles to transport frontliners for various hospitals as part of their “Isuzu Kasamo Mo” campaign, and they’ve been holding drives to donate protective and medical supplies to charitable institutions such as the Philippine Red Cross and Caritas Manila.

Now, IPC is to donate medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE), including surgical facemasks and gloves, to three hospitals–one each in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Beneficiaries will be the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, and the Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro.
In what is their first-ever online-only launch, an event made virtual by current pandemic conditions, Isuzu Philippines introduces the new D-Max special edition Boondock 4×4 variants via a Facebook premiere today at 5PM.
Market response to the D-Max Boondock 4×2 that they launched in May 2019 was apparently strong enough to compel Isuzu to follow on with an all-terrain version of this limited edition build on the top-spec LS-A variant of their popular D-Max pickup.
Priced at P1.795M for the AT variant and at P1.725M for the MT, the new Boondock 4×4 appears to replace the Boondock 4×2 in Isuzu Philippines’ D-Max lineup, with their official pricelist now showing only the all-terrain variants of this special edition. Those SRPs are before a P95k discount that Isuzu is offering under their “Monsoon Promo” until the end of June 2020.
The Boondock 4×4 also re-balances the D-Max line-up. Of the 10 double-cab D-Max variants (distinct from the sole single cab bare chassis utilitarian variant), 5 now have 4×4 drivetrains … putting muscle behind their campaign and off-roader challenge to “Live Life Differently.”
Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH’s 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 online launch dares off-roaders to go beyond normal,” 2020:
At exactly 5 p.m. on June 17, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) digitally launches via Facebook Live the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, Isuzu’s ultimate off-roader and the perfect vehicle to herald IPC’s motoring lifestyle campaign—“Live Life Differently”—that boldly responds to the challenges of the new normal.
This would be IPC’s first-ever digital launch, marking the world-renowned truckmaker’s innovative response in the “new normal”.
Within the “Live Life Differently” mantra, IPC encourages its clients and would-be customers to discover the endless possibilities of driving an Isuzu vehicle. To “Live Life Differently” would mean to simply go beyond the comfort of our homes, to explore the outdoors, and open ourselves up to more adventures, all the while driving an Isuzu vehicle.
With the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, to “Live Life Differently” now gives the off-roader the added confidence to take his or her adventures a notch tougher, higher, and farther.
IPC President Hajime Koso proudly introduced the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 as “purposely named after the mountains. The Boondock boasts rough and rugged styling, coupled with the exceptional engine performance of Isuzu – perfect for off-road driving.”
No other pickup can symbolize the Filipino off-roader’s re-emergence from months of home confinement than the 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4, which has been designed to handle practically all types of terrain: sand, gravel, riverbed, mud, and rocks.
Built upon the popular 3.0L D-MAX 4×4 LS-A model, the Boondock trademark adds an even tougher, more rugged image with the tried-and-tested performance to back it up, making it the ideal pickup for the Filipino motorist looking for that one vehicle to embody the “can-do” attitude of a true off-roader.
The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is powered by the Euro-4 compliant 4JJ1-TCX 4-Cylinder in-line Blue Power 3.0-liter diesel engine with VGS turbo charger and intercooler mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with gearshift indicator or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift, able to generate maximum power outputs of 177 PS at 3,600 RPM and 380 N-m of torque at 1,800 to 2,800 RPM.
This level of power and efficiency is also expressed in the D-MAX Boondock’s design and accessories. The monotube nitrogen-charged front and rear shock absorber ensures instantaneous response to changing road conditions, offering faster damping reaction. The result is an improved steering control in whatever terrain and driving condition.
Steel side steps not only offer easy access but valuable protection to the pickup body. Its honeycomb design with the “Boondock” logo is also easy to clean and provides better traction during ingress and egress.
The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is fitted with 265/70 R17 all-terrain tires wrapped around matte black off-road rally type design R17 rims. The Boondock decal on the tailgate is now paired with a new hood and body customized graphics that pays tribute to the country’s highest “boondock”, Mt. Apo.
The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 comes in the following colors: Red Spinel, Cosmic Black, Titanium Silver, and Silky Pearl White.
The 2020 D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is now available in AT and MT variants, with introductory prices of P1.725 million (MT) and P1.795 million (AT). As a part of Isuzu’s Monsoon Promo, a P95,000 discount is available until the end of June.

A week from this Wednesday, on the 17th of June, Isuzu Philippines will launch the new all-terrain variant of the special Boondock edition of their popular D-Max pickup. To be done on Facebook, social media that’s been massively mainstreamed in the face of the global pandemic, the “Live Life Differently” launch is as much an introduction of the latest rendering of their top-spec pickup as it is a reminder of the resilience of Isuzu Philippines and their famously rugged utility vehicles.
Press Statement by Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC), “Isuzu PH rallies motorists to ‘Live Life Differently’ with its new D-MAX Boondock 4×4, digital launch scheduled June 17 via Facebook,” 2020:
For Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), the nearly three months that Filipino motorists and families spent with each other in the relative safety of their homes during the various stages of the community quarantines have imparted valuable life lessons and inspiration to live a life unlike they had before.
IPC President Hajime Koso conveys a message of hope for the Filipino people, IPC employees, and Isuzu customers: “We will emerge even stronger from every challenge. You can count on IPC to support you in your efforts to rebuild and recover. We support the Filipino people and its leaders as we get back on track to global greatness.”
In this light, IPC’s new campaign “Live Life Differently”, conceptualized just before this public health crisis began, now takes on a more meaningful light.
The “Live Life Differently” campaign encourages IPC’s clients and would-be customers to discover the endless possibilities of driving an Isuzu vehicle. To “Live Life Differently” would mean to simply go beyond the comfort of our homes, to explore the outdoors, and open ourselves up to more adventures, all the while driving an Isuzu vehicle.
The campaign is now the rallying cry for the new Isuzu D-MAX Boondock 4×4, which will be digitally launched via Facebook at 5 p.m. on June 17, 2020. This will be IPC’s first online vehicle launch, and it is but fitting that the campaign will be carried by Isuzu’s ultimate off-roader, that is now made available in 4×4 variant both for manual and automatic transmissions.
Mr. Koso stresses, “We move on from every challenge, and with every obstacle we hurdle, we must live life differently to be able to be tougher, more resilient, more enduring, and more dependable. The new D-MAX Boondock 4×4 is our response to the toughest challenge we have faced yet.”
Now, as the nation gradually reopens its economy and finds new opportunities, Isuzu and its “Live Life Differently” campaign can help the country build a roadmap to an even more robust transport economy and be the Filipino motorists’ vehicle to renew and strengthen bonds with one another.
